On July 24, 1930 at Krug Park in Omaha, a bolt worked loose causing a crash of the park's roller coaster. Four were killed and 17 were injured. The accident led the city council to place a ban on roller coasters. Ten years later, the park closed.

The plans are not completely shattered. There is still hope of us getting a theme park. http://www.portnebraska.com/. Check it out..
Basically the developer is waiting until he can get the funding aligned before moving ahead with the plans. The funding can't be guaranteed until the Nebraska legislature paves the way.
From PortNebraska.com:
"Wild Escape and Port Nebraska are working closely with the State of Nebraska to bring this opportunity to Nebraska’s citizens. You can help make this happen. Contact your local Nebraska State Senator and ask him or her to support LB565 and LB697, The Entertainment and Tourism Development Act."
From what I can tell LB697 is dead. "Indefinately posponed". Which is irrelevant, because LB565 is still alive and well and is getting more and more support all of the time, names were added this month, in fact.
So I used the Nebraska Legislature website: http://nebraskalegislature.gov/web/public/home to figure out who my local senator is and sent him an e-mail asking for him to support LB565. I'm going to be sending him a letter by regular mail in the coming days to follow-up.
I encourage you all to do the same, if we let ourselves be heard maybe we can accelerate this through legislature and get the plans off the table and into the hands of an architect.
