A Rollercoaster Concept You Dream Of

Apollo, yes that's pretty close to what I had in mind. But I'm thinking more along the lines of fitting an inverted coaster within existing topography, not grading and digging to create topography around a coaster. I'm imagining how Kennywood would build an invert.

How about something like a steep drop right out of the station into an inversion element of some kind? Then again, I don't know how a mid course lift hill would work with an inverted coaster.

Ld, in my outlandish dreams, there are no other riders to worry about. That's what makes them outlandish! Are you talking about the "human roulette wheel?" Those were crazy, I remember seeing video of some of those things. Funniest part was almost all the "riders" shown were young women wearing skirts.

IIRC, Moosh may have a link to an old newsreel from Coney that shows some footage (a few seconds) of one in action.

Although technically in-line twists, Batwing at SFA is a flying coaster that has corkscrews that ride on the outside. Was this overlooked or did I miss something?

I don't know what would the difference be if like a stand-up had an inverted track. The position of the body would still be the same, just the track is over the head.

The key difference between a regular stand-up coaster and your hypothetical inverted stand-up coaster is the distance from the rider's feet to the wheel assemblies.

I've worked a 14 hr day and I'm too tired to explain more. I'll leave it to someone else. Or maybe you can ask a teacher at school.

those elements are really a in line twist i'm talking about a corkscrew like you would see on Medusa, but inverted. *** Edited 1/4/2008 6:22:53 AM UTC by fadeawayjae89***

I would love to see a design for a suspended (ie swinging cars) that would be able to navigate inversions (even if that meant turning off the swinging for those inversions.) Of course this new suspended would also need to be floor less as well.

While there is nothing physically impossible about a stand-up invert, I don't see the point. The one redeeming feature an invert has is that your legs dangle with no track below you, which is kind of cool. If the coaster was a stand-up, there would have to be a floor, and there goes the feet dangling part. Unless of course you mean you want there to not be a floor and have the seats be Acrophobia-style in which case I would say that is a terrible idea. The forces on Acro are bad enough for the ~1 sec. you have to endure them. I can't imagine an entire coaster of them.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
^ That was actually done on the powered coaster at the short-lived Space Center in Germany:

For a long time Me and Rob Leclaire on URC have mentioned the deep valleys back behind beast and tomb raider as idea for a inverted. Start at tree top and use the terrain with possibly a tunnel or two. Although artificial Montu is great because 50 percent of the ride is either on the ground level or underground. Nemisis is a short but forceful ride that is famous for its visuals.

Im waiting for some character to say they want to see an inverted woodie! LMAO You know there is some yahoo that will say it!

Although, I have to admit that I am intrigued by the idea of a launched wooden coaster. I believe someone mentioned it a few posts back.

In my dreams I see, an launching invert. That would just be amazing. And I'm not talking wicked twister launching invert. I'm saying like Stormrunner, but inverted. I actually think this Idea might work too. Like you pull up to the launch track Then fly through the course like a pilot .

Hey Person, Thanks for that link to the suspended spinny. Not exactly what I envisioned but close. I dream of being able to swing around the turns and much better capcity than that brand has.

I always wanted to experience a third rail terrain coaster. I think that would really open up layout possibilities. But now with LIM technologies, you could build a terrain hugging layout with "hot points" that accelerate you through points where inertia isn't sufficient.

I could see a coaster like X using terrain, Imagine doing backflips inches above the ground and face first dives. That is third rail controlled and I agree just a couple backflips or something could exicite dull points in a layout or it could be added later.

On a stand-up inverted, the car would have to go a long way down because you have wheels above your heads. You would probably have to have a height limit on that ride for the riders. If someone sneaks on, they could get there head bleedy afterwards. You really have to spread out the track also.

That's going to be one bulky train. I don't know if the train feels more weight because they are standing up, or not, but it's still would have to be a huge train that's bigger than the regular standup train.

The inverted wooden coaster has been patented. I can't remember if it was posted here or on another board.

Here's one that will never happen....

A semi corkscrew that takes you upside down...then continues down the track leaving you upside down along a straigt-a-way...until it finally flips you back. Picture a good 20 feet of going down a hill in an upside down position.

Never Happen.

Here's To Shorter Lines & Longer Trip Reports!

I would like to see a coaster that jumps from one section of track to another. Maybe like a ramp that the train jumps and travels about 50 ft and lands on another section of track.
I am not sure if we will see this in the next few years but it is coming.

When hell freezes over!

No designer worth their weight in gold is gonna take a chance a gust of wind won't flip it or something. Every element is calculated. Sure it's possible but I for one say. IT'S not comming any time and certainly not soon.
