A Quick Question about PKI

My family and I was planning a trip to the park tomorrow, of course with this cold front moving thru, its making temps no higher than 55, being on a rollercoaster that cold would just be nasty.

Is it true, that Kings Island wont even operate any of the steel coasters unless it gets higher than 50 degrees??

I dont think we are going tomorrow due to the cold temps, we wanted to move it up to either next weekend or even June 1st but those weekends are limited op days, and I guess that means that most of the rides will be shut down which is not worth going either...

so I guess June 8th

this kinda answers my own question but I called the park and CSR said that if its 45 degrees or warmer then the rides will operate, but I was just wondering since I've seen many trip reports where they state the coasters was not running due to the 50 degree rule..

Thanks

The only coasters that would not be running would be Face Off for sure and possibly Vortex but I think vortex would open later in the day if it was cold. The woodies woudl all be a go, and FoF is indoors. I say take the chance.

I think the 50 degree rule might be a myth although I really couldn't tell you what PKI's policy is. Closing weekend last year at CP temps were in the low 40's if I remember and all coasters were running (Raptor closed in the afternoon due to a crack). It says nothing in the Magnum manual about cold temps. Wind, rain, lightning, etc are all covered, but not temperature. Power Tower was not because compressed air and cold don't get along too well I guess. Just dress properly and you should be all set. Layers are the best because you can adjust them until you are comfortable. A hat is nice too, but if temps are in the 50's, that's probably not necessary.

thanks, I think due to my g/f's unrentless ranting about wanting to go no matter what we are going to make the trip, myself it doesnt matter, I remember when I rode T2 at SFKK 20 times in the 50s. I just told her that I better not hear a word about it being cold the whole day, who wants to bet on my trip report there will be some ranting from her??
the 50 degree rule is no myth, bascailly it's not the air tempature it's the track tempature that has to be 50. Vortex the track must be 50 degrees to run, after that then it will be fine. I don't think this weekend will be a problem at KI this weekend.

I'm goin this weekend. I think that mostly everything will open and if not right away then around 12. I was there earlier this year and there was snow on the gound but everthing eventually opened. On limited operation days all the big attractions will most likely open and ii is the stuff like kiddie land and the monster that will be closed
I`m pretty sure that the actual track temperature has to be 40 degrees, not 50 degrees. I could be wrong but thats what I remember hearing somewhere. With the cold weather, expect all the indoor, heated attractions: Flight of Fear, 7th Portal, Phantom Theater and Tomb Raider: The Ride to be more crowded than the out door rides.

I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

The 50 degree rule is correct... The air temp has to be a little above 50 for proper operation of most coasters at PKI. BUT if the maintenace guys get the ride going when its warmer, and keep the bearings in the wheels warm, then the ride will work. So if it is high 50s, then there is a good chance everything will eventually be open.

PS. stop by SOB or TG later saturday. Im working 4-close (although if the rides arent going, then im goin to another ride.)

Well, I myself am an Ohioan and justr happen to be going to PKI tomorrow too and let me tell you, weather reports around here have been very off. Today, around the Columbus area, it was supposed to be rainy with thuderstorms and about 55*. It's still rainy but no thunderstorms, and it's about 64*. I'd just go to PKI because most of the "funner" IMO attractions will be open. Its bad that Vortex might be but oh well. Before I waste bandwidth, I have another question. Would it be possible to do most of the big rides in the park in about 6 hours, including lunch. And, is there really a dark ride at PKI?
I have been in pouring down rain where the temperature had to be below 50 degrees. Vortex was closed for a while but thats it, Face off was open but closed after a while

bigger is better

well as you can tell we didnt go, it kinda sucks to think right now I would be walking up to the main gate right now, but oh well. We moved it up a weekend to the 25th, myself I wouldnt care how cold it was, but when a group of 3 outvotes you there is nothing you can do other than trek up there yourself. Anyways next weekend should be fine, temps look to be much warmer, the only thing I am worried about is the crowds since it be memorial day weekend, but we plan on stayin 9-10, I have to check the meeting calender to see if anyone else is going to be there on that day. This will also be my g/f's 1st trip ever to Kings Island, she has only rode the vampire and thunder run at SFKK, so its going to be a treat for me to watch her expressions after beast and sob. =0)

This will be my 1st trip in a few years, when I last went I believe that they just opened up Splat City, Action Zone wasnt around but FOF and James Bond was there.

sorry this is long, but I just wanted to include one last thing, I have never been to CP and me being a coaster nut that seems like 7th heaven..I am sure its a long drive from Louisville Kentucky but I would love to make the trip sometime. How does it compare to PKI??
