A question about opening day at PKI

I was thinking about going to PKI tomorrow for opening day but I heard that if it is below 50 they will not run the coasters. can anyone confirm or refute this? Thanks.
It's a myth.

actually it is true, it must be 50 degrees outside at some point during the day to open steel coasters, wooden coasters can run fine. But as soon as the temp hits 50 at some point they will start to run the rides and warm up the tracks, once the tracks are 50 degrees then they are good to go. I was at PKI Tonight for season pass sneak preview and they all coasters open except Face/Off and Backwards Racer.

I've operated coasters at temps much colder than 50 degrees. Maybe some parks are different or something. The only real problem besides working in the cold is that the harnesses are hard to close.

Well, almost all of them ran last night and it was low 40s.

I have seen cold days were they don't run though.

Americana is opening in 2002 and needs your support as many company picnics are already schedualed for someplace else, Indivdual visits are very improtant to the parks survival.

Certain coasters do not respond well to cold temperatures. At Kings Island, they have a couple of coasters (Vortex comes immediately to mind) that are marginal enough when they're warm that they are not comfortable running them cold because of the risk of a valley. When cold weather is expected, Kings Island does some special things to their wood coasters (Racer's second chain lift gets turned on; wheel bearings are only packed half-full of grease, stuff like that), but the steel coasters are not so adaptable. I know Face/Off can handle low temperatures, and I think Top Gun is okay in the cold, but Vortex and Adventure Express I am not so sure about.

Last night I thought SOB ran better than ever. It seemed a little smoother and just a more enjoyable ride. Could this because of the cold wood or is it maybe coming around

On the 3rd, there were no outdoor coasters running. It was in the upper 30's.

On the other hand, I've ridden Vortex at about 40, and the Beast in the snow.

Today only outer limits, tomb raider (why everyone went), racers, drop zone, and son of beast were running (coasters that is) It was about 44 degrees

Frontwords Racer was actually Adventure Express was Top Gun was Vortex opened a little before 4 Flight of Fear was. Yes 4 coasters were down. I hope PKI has alot of free tickets to give out to unsatisfied customers!

You said TR:TR was running. For most of the day? If so thats cool. I plan on going tommorow, I hope it's still operating. Also, SonofABeast, the rides you listed were running or they were not?
I forgot that Adventure Express was open. When I left (at 2,) Top Gun, Vortex, Face Off, and The Beast were down (Beast being out for repairs)

Tomb Raider was open up from 10 - 2. After that I dont know since I left. After riding Tomb Raider, Drop Zone, the Viking ship, and the Racers, I left :)

Top Gun opened, Vortex tested a couple times but they did not open it. I don't think it got above 45* all day and seemed to be getting colder.

TR:TR ran all day Friday :)

I was at the park until six. Tomb Raider opened up shortly after 11 and the queue was full and overflowing each time I went by after I rode in the morning. Every coaster except Face Off, the Backwards Racer, Runaway Reptar, and The Beast was open. Vortex didn`t open until around four. Top Gun opened after 1. Ironically, Vortex was open on Thursday as well. They tested Face Off on Thursday but decided that it was too cold to operate it.

I`ve ridden Son of Beast 67 times!

i was at pki yesterday evening and today. the vortex was running on and off last evening and today. it was just too cold for it in my opinion, face/off tested on friday but i don't believe it ever opened. oh well, still some good rides at pki the last couple days.....including TR!

ps.....this is going to sound funny but honestly i believe that SOB runs better in colder weather for some reason.
