Paramount Canada's Wonderland has sold their land to a housing company (Mattamy Homes) and will be closing down, possibly as soon as next year. This explains why they have not built any major rides for the past few years. The city of Vaughn has completly grown around PCW over the past few years.
The selling of the land is not a rumor, it has been reported on several media sources in Ontario. The only rumor surrounding this is the possible move of the park to an area close to the U.S., most likely close to Niagra Falls.

I have looked for a confirmed anouncement from PCW or Mattamy on the internet, but have come up short. Everyone around the area is well aware of it. I have been told by Mattamy Homes workers that it is a definate deal. Anyone who lives in the Greater Toronto Area knows that it is hot realistate.
If you look on the City of Vaughn website you can see the plans of a new business area right where PCW is.
I will get the link for that.
J_Roberge, yes, I am sorry for sounding a little harsh at first, it just seemed unbelivable at first. I mean to think of a chain park closing down.
Thanks

Please, do find a link, or some proof.
I have heard plenty of rumours about this, but I have not yet seen one shred of evidence to support it. It seems odd to me that if they're moving, that they would not only add a huge new ride this year, but also redo an entire section of the park, including lots of landscaping and path changes, just to have it ripped up...
I work at the park, and am there every weekend, and have not seen any evidence at all yet.

Yeah if I heard this I would want a source too so I can see where you are coming from. I have found nothing on the internet. When I talk to people about it they just say "Oh yeah I heard that on the radio the other day." or something like that. I am as curious to confirm this as everyone else, but nothing will come of it until Paramount announces it.
Put the pieces together: No major rides this year, past media stories involving a park near Niagra Falls.

So, I guess we can start saying that the rumor of the park moving towards Niagra Falls was actually pretty serious? I remember reading that about a year ago and laughing at it. Guess it was true.
I know this is random, but to go along with the belief of rumors, the same thing happened to me when someone told me they were going to turn Adventure World into Six Flags back in 1997. I didn't believe them until 2 years later!

I would hope they would build a new park. Still looking for a definate media source.

The park really needs a rollercoaster. There is no competition in Ontario in terms of another park which is why they probably haven't.I would hope they would build a new park. Still looking for a definate media source.
And that is why I don't see them moving. They just haven't added anything because they don't need to. What seems more plausable from a buisness view:
a) The park stays where it is, and continues to be Paramount's cash cow, as it has North America's 5th largest city all to itself, with almost no competition.
b) The park, for seemingly no reason, decides to move. So they pay for the park to be completely moved, for new land, and moves to, say Niagra Falls (as this seems to be the most common rumour). They move the entire park there. They then have far less of a population to draw off, AND Si Flags Darien Lake, Marineland, and Martin's Fantasy Island to compete with.
or c) The park closes down, and moves all the rides to different parks. Which would leave Toronto without any kind of major amusement park.
Which seems most likely?
