A Little Off Topic (PKI)

Well, this topic is for those of you who life in and around PKI. In the Cincy Inquirer today ( 10/4 ), my school had a big write-up. I go to Kings High School. If you live around here, you might have heard of us. We are #1 in division 2 football in our league, and 7th in ohio! Check out the paper!

Anyways... while reading the article, i saw a picture of the Kings District. I asked my dad about Kings Island, and how it seems to be in Deerfield Township. He told me this: Deefield Township ( a big reagion in Warren Country ) used to have PKI in it, before Paramount bought out the park. This meant Deerfield got the taxes. Somehow i guess, PKI was asked to be annexed by Mason, a neighboring town to Deerfield. Now Mason gets the taxes from PKI. This wouldnt seem a big deal, accept when you take into acount that Mason High School is one of the biggest, richest, and nicest Highschools in the area. Kings High School, on the other hand, is severly overcrowded, and outdated. My dad said PKI even admitted they were wrong allowing to be part of Mason. So I wonder.. what if PKI had stayed with Deerfield Township. Would my highschool be much better?

I know to alot of you, what i said makes no sense, but i know there are a few who know exactly what i am talking about. And if you dont care about my highschool, at least you now know a little PKI history.

No, Mason is just a predominately rich area, taxes don't make the people that live there richer.

In Ohio, Townships have very little say if an incorporated entity (village, town, city) adjacent to township land wants to annex. They don't need to secure permission from anyone. It took Mason a few years to grow to the point where it annexed land as far south as PKI. On the other hand, a township can only incorporate if it has the permission of all incorporated entities adjacent to it. I'm in a township about 1/4 mile from the Cincinnati city line and this issue comes up pretty frequently around here.

An outfit like Mason is interested in annexing something like PKI because they'll get more money out than they'll put in. They aren't in such a hurry to annex residential property.

I actually believe taht the taxes are somehow split up between Mason, and Deerfield Township.

So you believe that you are studying us, then kindly explain why you are the ones trapped in your seats.

Can you see Paramount's Kigns Island from your stadium? Mainly Son of Beast, Top Gun, and Drop Zone are visible.

You go to Kings too? Sweet.....what grade? Junior here :)

As far as I know, that's how the story goes. I don't think that has much to do with our school being so outdated and crappy compared to Mason. Mason has thousands more people than us and is growing immensely, so they need to expand constantly and build newer schools.

SoB, Drop Zone, and the Eiffel Tower are the most visible from our school. It's pretty frustrating when you're standing around in band practice and you can hear people screaming their heads off :)

Oh wow, someone from the same school. Thats weird. I'm a sophamore. I love seeing SOB in the morning. Soemtimes, there is low fog, and you can only see the top of SOB above it... very cool looking. If any of you are wondering... Kings beat Ross, and all we need to do is veat Loveland, and we are #1 easy.

P.S.... Are you Robert Graessle?? If you are, i am friends with your... relative... Sam. Your in Kids Klub too arent you?!

Holiday World...the cure for the common theme park!!!

Gas Tank to IN and back: $30
Admission to Fall Freak Out at Holiday World: $26
3 hours and about 60 rides worth of nighttime ERT on the two greatest wooden coasters ever built: Priceless :-D

Kings Island has been incorperated into the City of Mason CM.

Before that it was part of Deerfield twp. But also had its own police and fire divisions.

Some of you talk about punky kids. My gawd. Look at the immature 30 year olds. My gawd people it is and internet forum. Mistakes will be made. If you don't like misspellings then go fly a freaking kite or take care of your families instead of trashing kids who don't give two craps about spelling or punctuation on an internet forum.

And don't try to act all holy by bringing God into this. The fact is you are the dumb one, because if you knew anything about religion, you would know that God loves all regardless.

I live in Deerfield Township, but go to school in Mason. Funny how that works isn't it? I'm also employed at Kings Island... For anyone who's interested... the high school we moved into this year is nice, but it's almost so big that it's too big... kinda feels like a prison. Obviously Kings High School is very close to the park but if its any consolation, we can see the Eiffel Tower and Drop Zone from our school on Mason-Montgomery Road :)
Eminem.... he was referring to my Sig, not my spelling mistakes. Its alright, we are all entitled to our opinions.

Women was god's second mistake.

There has always been a "battle" of sorts between Mason and Deefield Township over the "ownership" of PKI. I cannot even begin to imgaine the amount of tax revenue that PKI brings to the table.... so a struggle over that money seems iminent. I doubt the struggle for contol of the tax money will end anytime soon.

Even though only one city will profit from the taxes collected from PKI, each has done it's fair share of developing the once barren area to help fill their cookie jar. Just think of all the revenue the city's have rolling in from the shops, restaraunts, motels, gas stations etc etc etc. PKI was the catalyst for all that extra revenue.

But seperately, a massive increase in population of the areas has led to the overcrowding of the schools. 30 years ago the highly residential boundries of Cincinnati stopped within the loop area. Now Mason and Deerfield are allowing resdential development at an alarming pace. With an increase in population, extra funding from citizens for schools is a must.

School overcrowding and lack of funds is common in many areas of the United States that do not have Amusement Parks. So a lack of funding from a park profits really cannot be blamed. IMO, the lack of citizen's attention to, and conern for, education is the bigger problem.

I have no symapthy for townships like Deerfield. Instead of complaining about the things that they cannot control they need to stand up and take control of their area. (This is in NO way indicating that anyone posting from the area is complaining). These areas look at growth in retail and housing as somehting that you can't have too much of, which in an area like Mason is not the case. They let the population balloon to crazy proportions in comparision to what the services and infrastructure were built for. Now you look at townships like Deerfield with overcrowded schools, roads that can't handle the amount of traffic, and brownouts every summer because the powers that be did not or could not execute a proper growth plan.

In a parallel observation, i find it funny that while WOA is blamed for all the ills of their neighborhood, PKI has never been mentioned in creating any sort of negative effects in their county. At least the people of Cincinnati are smart enough to not bother something that has little bearing on the condition of the area.
