A guilty pleasure. Kiddy coasters you love to ride

AGAIN with deffinitions...

I always go with the deffinition that a kiddie coaster is a coaster that is designed soley for kids, one that may not even let adults ride because of kiddie sized cars. Junior or "family" coasters are ones that are designed for the whole family... not too much for the youngest riders, but yet can accomodate adults comfortably.

When I think of Kiddie Coasters, I think of those little steel things that go around in an oval (some of the newer ones being over-and-under layouts). I don't consider Flying Unicorn and Sky Princess "Kiddie" coasters (Juniors, perhaps, but not "Kiddie". Sky Princess's neighbor, Joust, is border line "Kiddie".

I got into an "argument" on another forum about Sky Princess with someone who insisted on calling this one a Kiddie. Question... Since when does a kiddie coaster have a length of 2000 feet and a height of around 45-50 feet? Question... since when does a kiddie (or even some Juniors) have a mininum height requirement? (my 3 yr old niece was tall enough for Joust, but didn't make the cut for Sky Princess). When you come to think of it... Kiddie Coasters with a MAXIMUM height requirement can be counted as kiddie... not ones with a 42" minimum (and that is WITH an adult).

But then again, this shouldn't surprise me... after all, there are some who insist on calling a 150' coaster a JUNIOR Hyper. (Sorry, but no matter how you look at it, 150' is still a pretty good drop and I have a hard time calling that a 'Junior')

Don't forget the Little Dipper at Kiddieland in Melrose Park outside of Chicago. It's an ACE Classic by Herb Schmeck and PTC, and the park maintains it beautifully. At 25 feet I think it's firmly in the "kiddie" category, but adults can ride it comfortably. Very fun, nostalgic ride.

As for Zack's Zoomer, it's a great ride and very physical for a ride its size. Surprisingly strong laterals. A junior, yes, but not a kiddie ride.

Can't get enough of that family coaster Cornball Express. yeah, family.

The kiddie coaster at American Adventures in Atlanta, Georgia. It's the only kiddie I've ever been on. It was my first coaster, and I LOVE to ride it. I've heard it's really good if you stand up, my bro told me this one, but I donno if the ops would get mad. He must have had a cool op that day.

I worked 2 seasons on Woodstock Express and got to ride it almost every morning. I know that I am biased but it is my favorite. SLFAKE, I just lump kiddie and family coasters into one group. No biggie.
SFOGeorgia... another word of advice. It's generally frowned upon around here to tell stories of blatent disregard for safety rules. If you do them, keep them to yourself. Lots of ride ops surf this board, and you're sure to catch some flak.

SGOGeorgia, any ride op that lets you stand up on a ride should be fired....

But anyway, my favorite Family coaster is Jaguar!. Its a very pleasent ride over the sights of Fiesta Village, plus it goes through Monte's loop and over the lake.

I haven't found any kiddie coaster that I like, probably because there aren't any John Miller woodies out here, or anything like Runaway Reptar.

CFM, good call with Jaguar. I also LOVE the "junior" woodies, the Vekoma rollerskaters, RR @ PKI, HSTC, etc. Can't wait to get my first spin on PF @ IoA, whenever that might happen. I'm such a "kid", I even liked Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster.

Oh, and for clarification, for me there's NO guilt involved, just fun!

Ripsaw isn't bad at Camp Snoopy and I like to catch a ride on it once in a while. Flying Unicorn was also fun and pretty intense for just a lil guy. However, I still don't understand what the deal is with the platform behind the backseat.

The only one I'm allowed to go on is Poison Ivy's Tangled Train. It's good but don't get the front part of the train. It's got twenty cars, and the first ones just get dragged down the first drop. My dad holds our spot for SROS in the morning when it's backed up through the q building and we go ride Poison Ivy. I just realized that's illegal, correct? Anyways we call it a "warmup".

221' drop on SROS is more like 8000'

yes, holding spots in line isn't really "kosher".

back to topic, I always hate when the rollerskaters have TOO many cars...It prevents the train from picking up ANY speed. I seem to remember the one at SFKK had a capacity of about 100 riders...
