A few questions about Holiday World

1.) Is it generally crowded (was it when you were there)

2.) When is the best time (in your opinion) to go?

Its virtually never crowded. Lines are usually very short, and if you go during the week, you should be able to get many rerides on everything.

The best time to go to HW is every chance that you get.

Gotta agree with the above. I've been there weekends, weekdays, nights, days, and have never had much of a wait for anything - including the Raven, which has only the one train.

Besides - I'd rather wait in line for rides at Holiday World than walk-on to rides at most other parks ...

ravenguy98's right! I went in late June and *WOW* short lines, fantastic weather, and fantastic employee.

I was lucky and got to ride with an ex-CCI who is now the maintenance guy for the two coasters--an extremely nice guy!

Will, that would have been Jeff Hammersly, and I must say I'm pretty jealous you got to meet him. Once we get this whole cloning thing down pat, my vote goes to Jeff H. It certainly would be nice if all wooden coasters got the same level of love and attention as those two ferocious beasts.

The staff there can't be beat, fantastic employees from the top down. The Koch family has reached out to coaster enthusiasts in a way like no other park I know of, and to say the place is "family-friendly" is an understatement of epic proportions. Be sure to say Hi to HW's own Raven Maven, a regular here at the 'buzz.

Anything positive that people say about traditional parks, double it when talking about HW!

Cool. Thanks for the input guys. I'm going out there this year, and I just wanted to know what to be prepared for. I can't wait to go. About 67 coasters in 1 week and a half. Its gonna be great!

We do have some crowded Saturdays--like most parks--so try to come during the week if you can. A weekday in June is best.

Have a wonderful trip!

Ok thanks! Hey maybe I could get some sorta discount for knowing you? Just kidding.

Steve, if you're a member of the CoasterBuzz club--or any other coaster club--just show your membership card at the ticket booth and you'll get a deep discount. The specifics are outlined at holidayworld.com/srm.

Thanks! Paula

rollergator: Thats it! Jeff Hammersly... I knew it was Jeff something--ahh I know too many Jeffs! But yes, I was lucky. He has commented to me that he has ridden Legend way more than 500 times, and probably 1000 by this time, lol. I was in the line for front and noticed two people talking to a guy in a CCI hat and I decided to jump in only to discover it was the maintenance guy and two ACE'ers. Very cool!

Another yes, Paula, I agree--weekdays during June are best; I went like a Tuesday or something, I forgot. But I had a blast, nothing can beat Holiday World for overall experience!

Paula, how about a weekday in MAY? :)

My other car is now an Arrow X4D!

Wow ! Paula I have to admit I'm VERY impressed by your feedback to the buzzers . An Actual Employee from the park , and a manager to boot ! I will HAVE to put holiday world on my list of parks to visit this season . wish other managers from other parks would do the same....

You really need to get some more BRAN in your diet

A hate to disagree even slightly with Paula, but there is one disadvantage to a weekday in June. Being at the far western edge of the eastern time zone, the park closes before full dark on those longest days of the year. This prevents riding Raven and Legend in the dark which is a fantastic experience.

If you can, compare the park calendar to sunset times, phases of the moon, and moon rise time to find a time that you can be there when it will be really dark. Complex but worth it if your schedule allows.

Also, look for the deer grazing under the coasters and don't miss their fine log flume.

Jim Fisher - there's an easier way: attend SRM. You're guaranteed night rides then!

Okay...have to word this carefully...

Ummm....weekdays in May tend to be mostly school groups days. Lots of middle school-age kids and some high school.

There's an entirely different atmosphere and energy in the park those days. Not *bad*, just different.

Does that help? Paula

Paula, just say the park is filled with "youthful exuberance" ;)

Mamoosh:

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it there for SRM, it just doesn't fit my schedule. I will probably have to go on one of those days in late June or early July with no dark rides. (I'd put a frowny face here, but I can't from about going to Holiday World at any time)

Jim Fisher - what a bummer...but I totally understand. The good thing is SRM happens every year, so I'm sure you'll get to it eventually. And IMHO it only seems to get better each year...wow, I find that hard to imagine as its already so good ;-)

For those that have been there, have you ever had to wait for a long period of time to ride? If so, how long and when?
Try the Saturday before Memorial Day, if you can't do a weekday. That's when I went last year, and after about 2 p.m., Raven was a walk-on. I had at least 15 rides in a row in the back seat. And although the park closed at 8 p.m., it was mostly dark for my last few rides.
