A brief word of thanks

Well, I just got laid-off after four years. I guess I've got more time to argue with y'all about whatever. 🤣

Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll land on your feet, but that's tough.

I'll be fine, I've got a huge runway. But it does make it harder to worry about expenses like this. I did reduce my cost for the search index by $6 a month, which annually is not insignificant.

Maybe that social app I'm working on will help. I can run it on the same infrastructure, so that's a plus.

Ugh. That sucks.

Tried to downvote Jeff's "laid off" post and subsequently ignored every post he's made site-wide.

Sorry to hear that.

Yeah it doesn't seem like up OR down vote is really appropriate for bad news like that, so I'm just going to repeat Andy's "Ugh. That sucks."

I reupped membership so I don't feel guilty running an adblocker. Those ads are crazy annoying for the pittance you're getting paid.

I just paid for a membership. It's only $25, and I use this site daily. I kind of realized that I have been somewhat of a CoasterBuzz freeloader over the years. I would love for anyone reading this who is not a CoasterBuzz Club member to please consider joining.

I kind of feel like membership isn't pushed hard enough on here. On my desktop, "CoasterBuzz Club" is only visible when I am at the top of the page, which is only a small amount of time during my visit. Maybe there should be a little button somewhere on the page at all times that says "Join CoasterBuzz Club". Remind users that it exists.

And maybe somehow ask lurkers to create a profile and join in the discussion. Judging by Facebook and YouTube, there are a gazillion people out there who love theme parks and roller coasters. Wouldn't it be awesome if you didn't even have to run ads on here? Maybe do Patreon? When people feel generous, they can donate?

Just kind of brainstorming there. I'd love to see CoasterBuzz grow. Jeff, you deserve all the club members you can get.

Again, please consider joining.

Out of curiosity, I just looked up when I joined CB and it was 2004, over 20 years ago. Wild!

Funny how I have never met anyone in this forum (unless we inadvertently walked past each other at IAAPA) but I feel like I have known many of you for years.

I never thought my relationship with a discussion forum would last this long or would play such a role in my professional and personal circles. Funny story...years ago my wife actually bought me a CB t-shirt for Christmas because she saw me on this page so often. I still have it somewhere in storage. CB is one of the first webpages I open every morning at work just to quickly check for any big news as I start my workday.

There has been some fantastic and spirited discussion and debate on these boards over the years. I really value that most of the discussion pertaining to the industry is fairly high-level stuff. I hope this continues. I'm not a super frequent poster...but when I do post, it almost always leads to some rich and informative discussion.

Kudos Jeff for leading this forum for decades....it's really remarkable that despite the platform's simplicity, there is really no need for fancy bells and whistles. The content and discussion are what makes it a great forum and one that's easy to engage with, especially on an emotional level.
