Today was my first time to Magic Mountain since Full Throttle opened in 2013. I have to say how disappointed I am in how rough Apocalypse has become. It used to be buttery smooth. I was also put off by how outdated and poorly maintained Cyclone Bay was. I think it needs to be closed, demolished, and rebuilt as something entirely new, with Apocalypse getting a full and thorough refurb to bring it back to it's peak. That corner of the park could be so much better.
I also finally was able to ride Twisted Colossus and HOLY FREAKIN' COW what an incredible ride that is. This was my first RMC, and I have to say that I'm definitely a fan. I got to ride in the next-to-last row, too. This thing packs a punch! The large drops really took me by surprise, with how steep and intense they are. This is now hands-down my favorite coaster in the park (Apocalypse used to be).
Side note: I'm disappointed that Fear Fest takes over the whole park now, instead of just specific areas. It used to be no problem to stay in the park but avoid the creepy stuff. As someone who doesn't like or celebrate Halloween, it was a bummer having to leave so early (7pm). Would be nice if it was a hard-ticketed event on different days from regular operating days, so that those that don't want to do it could still get a full day in at the park, but still let those who enjoy it, well... enjoy it.
Just thought I'd share a little from my day today. I bought the Labor Day Gold Pass deal, so can't wait to get many more trips in over the next year-plus. ^_^
I was there on Friday 10/14 First Visit. Comments about Apocalypse certainly true, it could be a great ride if it wasn't a constant jackhammer. Didn't they just have it closed for track-work like a couple weeks ago? Anyway, Colossus was a phenomenal ride, first RMC here as well, and first time on X also, X amazed me, wish there were more like it.
I have to agree about X2. All these Wing coasters going in are so boring, especially when they could've been so much more exciting as a 4D coaster.
Apocalypse used to be as smooth as Twisted Colossus is now. It's a crying shame they've let it decline so much. :(
X blew me away in 2003. As the train pulled in the station all I could think was "What the F just happened?!?"
That said, GateKeeper is probably my favorite B&M I've ridden. Granted I haven't ridden all that many, including ZERO hyper air gigas.
But then again, what do I know?
I was there last week of September, and I didn't have any issues with Apocalypse. I will say the park is looking very bad in spots. If they'd replace all shade canvases that are dry rotting, power wash the sidewalks, blow all of the leaves out, and just do some maintenance, the whole park would look better.
I'll second that, park is looking very rough in spots, but as it is a six flags, I wasn't expecting much more honestly. Not just sidewalks and canvases, but the ride stations and queues themselves are just very dirty. Whoever painted the walls white on superman should have committed to cleaning them too. Looks like 1997 dirt up there.
Went to fright fest, way better at night, probably because all the dirt was hidden.
