88-Year-old grandmother loves Diamondback at Kings Island

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Careening through stomach-turning twists and 200-foot drops at speeds nearing 80 mph, Thelma Gratsch takes on Kings Island’s toughest steel monster like it’s just a walk in the park. The “88-years-young” season pass holder from Mount Lookout estimates she’s ridden Kings Island’s highly touted Diamondback coaster more than 50 times since its opening day in April 2009. And she said she’s in no mind to slow down anytime soon.

Hopefully in 30 years, I will be just like that granny and still riding my favorite coasters.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

As Jan and Dean put it, "Go Granny, go Granny, go Granny go!"

Go grandma! I am 38 and can't even IMAGINE what kind of cool s*** that will be available in 50 years!

I am nowhere NEAR a power-rider! I could probably last a while on Diamondback, though. :)

I consider myself a power rider, but like Jeff said you get to the 7-10 range and the forces from the ride really mess you up. I made it for ERT one morning and had 8 rides within 45 minutes, which sounds awesome, but ended up making me get some lunch and taking a long break from the coaster. I always thought that I could ride diamondback all day, but it just never happens. Most rides I've gotten in a day is 16. I can ride the beast and voyage more consecutive times than diamondback.

I tried the power rider thing once. It didn't work out.

^^Oddly enough, and despite my love for coasters above all else, I think I found myself arguing on another site in favor of significantly lower coaster counts at parks in exchange for making the ones that remain really interesting.

It was this site, sirloindude.

I hope I can still ride coasters in 47 years when I am 88. Actually I meant to say 67 years! ;)

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I subscribe to the wisdom of Pete Townshend..I hope I die before I get old. (although I realize my signature can eithe agree or disagree)

He and Roger sure didn't.
