5/28/01-Six Flags Over Texas

I had a bunch of guests stay over at my house this weekend, and we had about 20 tickets we got from a friend FREE, so we took about seven of my friends to SFoT and was not dissapointed! We got to the park at about 10:15 and immediately raced towards Titan. We found out rwally quickly it was closed until 3:00. So we went and rode every other roller coaster in the park.

We went completely across the park for our first ride of the day, the average Runaway Mine Train.
I will admit it, it is running a lot better than last year, but if you are going to add new cars to the ride, make the seats cushioned.

Since we had a seven year old in our group, we were forced to go on Mini Mine Train by my dad. This is easily the most boring roller coaster ever made! I know it is a kiddie coaster, but every kiddie coaster has at least one drop. Oh well!

We were allowed to ride whatever we wanted now, so we went to Batman: The Ride. The ride was great as usual, but I only had to wait twenty minutes. The line reached out to the Batmobile, but all the zig-zags were closed of and they were running two trains. Awesome!

We decided to skip Mr. Freeze for now, because of an hour and a half wait. We walked to the usual walk-on on Judge Roy Scream. This ride is nothing special, and the airtime from last year is gone. The ride used to be the ejector seat at the park, now it is the usual out-and-back no one would care if it was taken out.

We decided to hit a chute the shutes. Always fun. We went to the indoor Runaway Mountain. I hadn't been on it in a few years, and it is a nice little ride. Great theming and a very unique loading station.

We hitched a ride on Texas Giant with the usual 45-1 hour wait. A simply brilliant ride last year, a great ride this year. A must for any trip to SFoT.

We got another walk-on on Shockwave. Heavy G's on the loops, but a fairly boring layout. Forget it if the wait is over ten minutes.

We finished our day with a ride on Titan. The ride opened 1/2 hour earlier and we only had to wait twenty minutes. The first dop is truly amazing, the floater hill is unbelievable, and the helixes are very intense. The only coaster in the nation to make a trip from the other side of the country.

Overall, the park gets a decent +3. The park is clean, the service is nice, and the lines are managed very well. Be sure to eat a Dicky's Gator MountainGrille! The best burgers and chicken in Texas. Congrats Six Flags! The park is now a top ten in my books! *** This post was edited by coastergoose on 5/30/2001. ***
Coastergoose,
That is Gator McGee's Mountain Grill.

TITAN Laps: 7
Gator McGees is good but that new BBQ place near the oil derrick is awesome! Also, I don't agree about the Shockwave being boring. I was there on Sunday and I had a great time on Shockwave, the tight G's in the loops and great air time on the drops was amazing. I also love the cool new green/blue paint job. The Judge Roy Scream was amazing in the back seat, just keep your hands up and you'll get amazing air time on every hill!

BTW, the Runaway Mine Train is still one of my favorite rides at the park. If you ride in the back seat you'll get one wild ride. Especially that final drop into the tunnel.

The Texas Giant and Titan speak for themselves. I also love the way the park looks now, great re-furbishing.

TITAN RULES! *** This post was edited by DAN-EL on 5/31/2001. ***
I was there later in the day on Sunday also. I spent the first half of the day in San Antonio at Fiesta Fest with ACE. When I got back to SFoT (about 6:00 that night) I lined up for Titan and would ride and then get back in line. I think I got 3 rides between 6 and 10. Not bad for a queue that long.
