5/19/02-I Hate Cedar Point!... (First TR-long)

Associated parks:
None

Here's my TR of Cedar Point on Saturday, March 19. Enjoy!

We left Lebanon, Ohio(15-20 miles North of PKI) at about 6:30am with my parents, sister, and a friend, and arrived at CP at around 10:30. We used our coupons for $9 off Funday tickets in their brochure from http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/trips/main/brochure.cfm. Really good deal for $30 a ticket. The park was jam packed thanks to partly cloudy skys and around 70 degree temperatures.

When we got into the park, we headed to Raptor where the line was already 1 hr. 45 min. We decided to skip and went across to DISpatch mASTER Transport.

The wait was surprising a good 25 minutes long compared to several walk-ons before. DT is a pretty decent coaster and I like the fact that it's enclosed because it makes the ride "seem" more thrilling IMO(rode last row, left). Of course that theming is on the low end of crap but it was a nice, fun little ride. Kind of reminds me of Space Mountain.(5.75/10 rating)

Next I(by myself) took a little walk-on ride on Cedar Downs, one of the coolest, non-thrill rides I've been on. This Merry Go Round on steroids is a must-ride when you go to CP. You'll seriously have a lot of fun on it unless you think you're too cool to ride. Are there any others of these rides around?(7/10 rating)

We took a quick ride on PT(when we got off 1 hr. wait) up side(8.5/10), skipped Corkscrew(30 minute wait), and headed for The (second) Big One.

The wait was approx. 30 minutes when we got in line but quickly amounted up to 1 hr.+ behind us before we even got on. The line moves constantly though which is really good. (Seat 8-2) I don't know what to say about Magnum. It's got a nice drop and a fun turnaround, but much of the ride was almost mine-train rough compared to other hypers I've been on. (9/10 for drop, turnaround, tunnels, atmosphere; 6/10 for the rest) It's a good ride, but not great. IMO, definitely one of the most overrated coasters around, but I'll ride it again next time. The breeze felt good at the top.

Next up, the true hidden "gem" of CP. Gemini is always very quick to get onto, it has some of the best(and scariest) headchopped effects I've experienced, and is overall a very fun, and probobly the most re-ridable ride at CP that almost everyone can and will ride. If only it was racing. :)(9.5/10)

We ate at one of the food places between Gemini and MS. I don't want to talk about it, so we'll go on.

After eating a (begin sarcasm)delicious amusement park burger, we headed over to the delightful, luxurious Mean Streak(end sarcasm).

The wait was 1 hour and 15 min. but I just had to give it a try because I had only ridden it once before and wanted to prove to myself it really wasn't that bad. Well, after hopping into seat 1.2 with my sister(hoping for a smoother ride), we headed up the lift hill with smiles on our faces...and when we returned they were still there, the only purpose being to try not to cry for wasting so much time on quite possibly the worst woodie in we've been on. The beginning started off ok, but as it progressed the roughness increases, and actually hurt my chest from the shaking by the end. That never happens so I knew it was a bad ride. No redeeming qualities besides it's magnificent structure and design. (0/10 rating with a passion) Burn baby Burn! :(

But I was ok after that. The log flume(15 minute wait) was a good ride and my first trip on the CPRR was excellent! The Boneville thing or whatever it was called is hilarious. Don't miss the train!(10/10 with a passion :))

We decided to skip CCMR(45 minute wait!) and Thunder Canyon(1 hr. 30 min. wait!) and headed on to MF.

When we got to the ride, we were extremely surprised that not only was the ride a 2 hr. 30 min. wait, but to even get to the end, we had to pass through every single line and turnstyle and area and whatever of the queue to get to it. This thing was FULL and counting. No one was turning back. Guess what. We decided to wait anyway. And boy was it worth it!

I got a choice of any seat of my desire, but I had to go to the middle(5.1), because by dad went on with me(my sister, mom, and her friends were all too scared) and to my surprise when we got off(he had NEVER told me this before), he was scared of heights, coasters, rides, etc., but went with me anyway so I didn't have to go by myself. Aww. This made me feel really bad though and I almost didn't enjoy the ride(his eyes were closed the WHOLE time), because it was like him telling me that he forced himself to go on everything and he didn't really want to. I'll never make him go on anything ever again, but I'm glad we got our on-ride photo. My face in pure relaxation, his in pure terror. Oh well, this Intamin masterpiece is too good not to enjoy in some way. The drop is incredible as well as the tunnels and intense overbanked turns. Wow! My favorite coaster ever( just under SROS at SFNE ;))! (9.999/10)

We skipped Mantis(2 hr. 15 min. wait!!!), Iron Dragon(30 minute wait), Wildcat(15 min. wait), and got something to eat at Coasters. The milkshakes were really good!

It was almost 7 now, so we had to head up from(on the great Skyway) to Raptor for a Spectacular finale to an Incredible day!(first we took a 15 minuite wait on Demon Drop-good ride,7/10) The wait was almost 1 hr. 15 min. Let me tell you, this ride is a lot more intense than I remember! The zero G rolls are out of this World! If you want the #*()% scared out of you, back row, left side. I never scream on coasters but this one actually forced me to. I love my inverts and this super-intense beast jumped quickly into my top 10 steelies. I shake just thinking about it.(9.5/10)

We ended our day by getting a bite to eat at the Hotel Breakers Fridays which was so enjoyable if you can imagine after a day of coasters. We finally got up to our room (at HB), and I believe we all instantly fell asleep..and lived happily ever after. :)

The End

Coasterbuzzers thinking,"Wait I thought he hated CP", "Me too", "It even says right there it the title", "What?"...

Ha ha. Fooled you about the title. Good attention getter, eh? :) I still don't have the best respect for their coaster line-up, but the park overall is excellent. I think I got to the point. ;)

Scared me for a sec. How can you hate CP, unless you've even been there, don't assume it's a bad park.

June 20th, "I'm sprinting for Talon. Oh, wait! I won't have to."
Hey, you caught my attention. Disaster Transport= 5.75 rating? You sure like to get technical with your ratings. ;)

There are currently 11 coasters with the name Batman, 8 with the name Superman and 22 with the name Boomerang. Batman and Superman: The Ultimate Chiller Knight Flight Krypton Escape Ride.

Nice report (9.75/10)

Wow, the park was pretty packed. So you would not be mad at me if I told you I walked on Millennium Force, Raptor, Magnum, etc., and only 2 people were on Mine Ride when I rode last Tuesday? It's ashamed you did not get the chance to experience the point on a weekday, it like a whole other world.

And he's right peeps, Raptor is a whole new ride this year, incredibly intense!

...nah, it still pretty much sucks. (But I know I'm only one of a *very* few to hold that opinion...

Anyway KK, that sounded like most of my trips to CP; long lines, but still a good time. I like reading your writings. Keep 'em coming.

2Hostyl, I don't hate Raptor, but it isn't even on my top ten list. There are WAY better B&M inverts out there, namely Alpengeist and Dueling Dragons, and I still find the straigtaways on Raptor just kill its great pace. At least KoasterKing liked MF.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
Man, I was thinking like what the heck is he saying, great trip report

SFGAm: SCREAM. THRILL. REPEAT. Two New Coasters in 2001!
I live about an hour and a half away from cedar point and we are going there this weekend, but i just wanted to let you know that instead of sending people to get a brochure that only saves you 9 bucks on mountain dew cans now here locally (up in sandusky as well) there are 13 dollars off. If you present the can at the gate *good through may and then it goes down to 9 dollars off in june. Just thought I would drop that little tidbit in.
I like all of the B&M inverts better(besides MAYBE BTR, but I still don't know). I just thought it was paced a lot faster than last year. It was the surprise factor more than anything that made me put the rating up. And Craig, who doesn't like MF? If they don't, they are truely full of it and haven't even taken a ride. I've been on 120+ coasters and this one stands out in several ways. The only one I can't wait to get back to more is SROS at SFNE. But there's still a lot of trips I want to take before I get back to the Point(particularly SFGAm/Adv, SFWoA , HW, IOA, and BGW). I'll still try to make another trip in August though. I still think Cedar Downs was really cool. Anyone know of another one?

There are only two Prior and Church "Racing Derby's" still in existence today!! The other one is located at Playland in New York.

Looks like crowds are getting big.
You did go on a weekend.
In the summer time, the weekdays have the crowds like you just described, there is no escaping it.

It would be wise of everyone to visit CP NOW before school lets out, which is in a few weeks.

Wow, summer time is here.
I went on a Wednesday and Thursday last year in July and no way were the lines that bad. The longest waits were for MF and Magnum. In fact Thursday had half the lines of Wednesday. I suspect that the $9 coupon is causing the problems. The lines that are described sound like what I encountered at Great Adventure last year when they had a soda can discount.
As for the Prior and Church ''Derby Racers'' there
are only two left in the US. Cedar Point's races,
but Playland's (Rye, NY) is faster and they are
working on restoring the ''racing'' element.
I can really think of only one straightaway on Raptor. The one after the first flatspin.

Some people say that B:TR is better. There is no way this can be true. On one occasion, I rode Raptor (Aug. 7th to be exact) and just two days later (Aug 9th) I went to SFGAm and rode B:TR. It was completely a waste of time. Oh well.

Montu is a great inverted coaster, too, and it would be up there. Raptor is one of the few inverted coasters I've been on with a real decent first drop.

I did Raptor, Alpengeist and Batman all in the same week. How is any B&M inverter a waste of time? Sorry, but Batman is the most intense. They're less intense as they get bigger, but they are also faster as they get bigger. That puts Raptor in the middle as a happy compromise of the two.

I've been on all the inverts in the US(minus Talon), and you are absolutely correct in how that works Jeff. Alpie leaves you breathless(as well as DD). Raptor leaves you disoriented(as well as Montu). And BTR leaves you wondering where the hell you are! I would gladly wait 2 hours+ for any of them. The zero-G rolls can't be beat!
I've been on Montu and DD. I put Raptor above them for two reasons. The incredible first drop and the awsome end helix. That is what makes this coaster the #1 inverted on my list. Montu was big diappointment for me. I don't know what it was, but it sucked. I even went on it 10 times and I still found it to be disappointing.
