4/19/03 - Dance Dance Frenzy: First Revolution

What: “Dance Dance Frenzy: First Revolution” Who: The State University of New York at Buffalo’s Club Dance Dance Revolution is hosting its first annual Dance Dance Revolution tournament!

Pre-Register: 

Send an email to dance_dance_revolution@hotmail.com with your name, alias, divisions you plan on entering, and any questions you may have about the tournament (directions, etc). Those who email at least one week prior to the tournament will be given a $3 discount.

When – April 19th, 2003
5pm-12am (registration from 5pm-6pm – late arrivers may either not be eligible to participate or will be asked to pay a fee.)

Where – State University of New York at Buffalo, 210 and 215 Student Union

*** NOTE! This tournament is NOT being played on an arcade machine!*** Playstation 2 Console, DDRMax, metal pads

Entry fee – First entry: $8 ($5 for UB students) Second entry: $3 ($3 for UB students) Third entry: $3 ($2 for UB students)

Rules –

1. Respect the equipment

2. Respect other people

3. Respect others’ property

We reserve the right to ask people to leave the tournament if they are being disrespectful.


Competitions – Specific competition times will be set according to participation 1. Singles (elimination bracket) 2. Doubles (partner routines) 3. Freestyle (single routines)

Scoring –

Singles

Three songs, all chosen by roulette. Light, standard and heavy settings will change depending on the round within the elimination bracket. Winner is decided by highest number score for three-song set. In the event that one or both participants fail, the match continues and winner is still decided by highest three-song score.

Doubles

Two participants perform to one song and are scored by a panel of judges based on specified criteria. Costumes are permitted, but other props are not, due to safety factors. All routines are scored equally regardless of song or difficulty level. Teams may use one or both pads. If the team fails the song, they are disqualified. Each team may only perform once in this division, but individuals may perform up to three as long as with different partners. Judges scores based on: Creativity, Footwork, Style, and Flow. Total points: 400

Freestyle

Single participants choose one song and are scored by a panel of judges based on specified criteria. Costumes are permitted, but other props are not, due to safety factors. All routines are scored equally regardless of song or difficulty level. Participants may use one or both pads. A failure will result in a score of 0. Each individual may only perform once in this division. Judges scored based on: Creativity, Footwork, Style, and Flow. Total points: 400 Prizes – Hundreds of dollars in trophies and prizes, including prizes provided by RedOctane. Cash prizes will be given based on participation.


A limited amount of food and beverage will be served at no extra cost to participants; additional food may be purchased in the Student Union. Certain areas and consoles will be reserved for those who wish to practice or just have fun while waiting.

We will also be having mini-competitions and giving out prizes throughout the night (ex: best costume, etc.)

We are working on having the tournament videotaped. If we do, we will also be selling copies to be mailed to those interested.

Wow...a Red Octane tournament. That's almost as cool as a Milton-Run tournament =D
