Myself and my girlfriend just got back from a coastering trip to Ohio. This is our first trip to the Buckeye state and my first attempt at a trip report. Our trip spans 4 parks over the course of a week's time... we also had time to see a little bit of PA also.

DAY 1 - Thursday - 5/11 - Travel Day

We flew into Columbus because this was the cheapest air fare I could find, and also it seemed centrally located to everything. Then we got into our Thrifty silver Neon and drove toward Cleveland. We stayed at the Baymont Inn off of Route 8.

DAY 2 - Friday - 5/12 - Six Flags Ohio, Aurora.

After consuming mass quantities of Baymont's free continental breakfast we drove to the park about 30 minutes away. We got to the park at 11am, not very many cars for a park that opened at 9am.
We were greeted at the gate by the park manager who noticed that we were both sporting yellow SFoT season passes. Apparently he came from SFoT... small world huh.
SUPERMAN: ULTIMATE ESCAPE - Whoosh, this coaster will give you a rush. We rode up front and in the rear for a total of 4 rides. Although I had heard about it, we were still caught off guard when the train stopped for a couple of seconds on the rear tower. A weird sensation just hanging like that.
MIND ERASER - Just like the Flashback back home.
BIG DIPPER - This may be the first time I have ridden a coaster with manual brakes. We really liked riding this one from the middle car. Next, we tried to double our pleasure by riding it in the last seat. I held my hands up, BIG mistake. I was squashed in my seat on either the first or the second drop and heard something pop or crack inside me. I was pretty much in a little bit of pain for the remainder of the trip. I really liked the fact that the coaster uses the hills in the terrain to its advantage. This coaster did not seem very long at all... maybe due to the speed? All in all... now one of my favorite woodies.
VORTEX - Whew! Lots of track. Rode this one in the middle. The shoulder restraint kept hitting me in the neck... very uncomfortable.
OUTER LIMITS - This one should be called OUCHer unLIMITed. Hard to enjoy when you have to crane your neck to keep from banging your head against the restraints. Just as bad as its mirror in VA.
RACER - Rode facing frontwards, enjoyable ride.
ADVENTURE EXPRESS - Pleasantly surprised on this one. Kinda different that it begins on a hill and has a chain lift at the end. While standing in line, I heard many comments on how lame this coaster was. I did not feel that way. For a mine train it was good. And I liked the theming at the end on the lift hill. Although I thought this portion looked suspiciously like the Eye of Myra part of the Indian Jones ride in Disneyland.
BEASTIE - Big kiddie coaster... impressive. Small cars though. I am 6'2" and had a very difficult time getting in this one. Fun.
TAXI JAM - Ride Op was new on this one I think. The train before us had to be pushed onto chain and was braked way too early on return. Thus had to be pushed by two employees. Our ride was by a different op and was less eventful. One for the coaster count.
SCOOBY DOO'S GHOST COASTER - Now about 11:30am and the lines begin. One hour wait so I could add this to my coaster list. Unique ride, would have been fun if it were longer.
FOOD - Skyline Chili - chili cheese coney and pasta with chili, cheese, onions... NASTY! Cheese was as flavorful as a half melted orange sink scouring sponge and chili was like something rejected by the ALPO plant. Uuhuhuhuhuhuhuh! (I hope I am not dis'n some sort of regional favorite... I can't imagine. This would really help if you know you were not going to ride very many rides.)
Note: Seemed kind of strange for the park to open 30 min before any thing else opened in the park, and I am including shops and food stands.
Closed: Bayern Curve and Flying Carpet. I have heard that Bayern Curve is closed alot... At least no coasters are closed. Yippeeeee!
Breakfast: French Fries and a soda. Best French Fries I have had at any park EVER. Can't recall the last time I got fries and a coke at a park for 3 dollars. Great value.
JACK RABBIT - Cool coaster. Small size yes, but very interesting. This one drops into a gorge twice before the chain lift. I especially like the double drop after the lift. Kinda like the big slides that most parks used to have.
RACER - another cool woodie
STEEL PHANTOM - I got to ride this one with something like 114 days until it is torn down. Or at least that is what the sign says at the gate. This one does not seem near as rough as I was expecting although I rode it in the middle car and then the rear.
THUNDER BOLT - Never did I think I would get the chance to ride this one either. Very cool, nice that the last drop is the big one, different. Only one train running. No wait time so we rode this one 4 or 5 times in a row.
THE EXTERMINATOR - What a surprise! A spinning mouse and plenty of darkness. Good theming. Rode it 3 times.
LIL' PHANTOM - Darn shame I could not add this one to my count. I exceeded the height requirement. I could not find a kid to ride with. Oh well.
OTHERS - So much old and cool stuff I had to do it all. PITTFALL, AERO 360 good one, ENTERPRISE, MUSIK EXPRESS, WAVE SWINGER, LOG JAMMER, KANGAROO odd but good, SWING AROUND, AUTO RACE, MERRY-GO-ROUND, TURNPIKE, WHIP real fun, GOLD RUSHER can you ever have enough dark rides, NOAH'S ARK w/ water working, OLDE KENNYWOOD RAILROAD, and OLD MILL.

Acording to the attendant, MF would not open until noon or so. Something about paint having to dry or at least that is what we were told. So in the mean time we just walked around a little and rode whatever we happened upon. The Drizzle seemed to shut down MF quite often, so much so that I decided to save it until Wednesday. In the meantime I would ride everything else.
RAPTOR - This was the first thing we rode, MISTAKE. With MF not coming on line until after noon, this coaster had quite a line. Almost an hour, I think. Plus, apparently it was some sort of school physics day and the park had many students in line.
Finally we boarded for our 'flight'. I now consider this either my #2 or #3 inverted coaster behind Montu.
All three trains were running that day which made for a quicker than expected moving que.
DISASTER TRANSPORT - I have heard this one ragged on in the past. It's not bad, although I am not sure that I consider it a coaster. I do like the theming though, and best of all, no wait time.
Big Wheel - Girlfriend insisted on this one.
WILDCAT - I am a huge fan of Schwarzkopf coasters. They always seem to deliver plenty of fast fun. Even on the little bitty ones like this.
IRON DRAGON - I liked the mist thing at the end.
CORKSCREW - Yet another arrow corkscrew. Woohoo.
MANTIS - Tallest stand up I have ever been on. Very quick loading when compared to King Cobra in PKI. I think I was in the seat a little too high. Kinda like riding a bike you are too short for over a ramp... OUCH! Oh yeah, lets not forget the head boxing restraint system... Double OUCH! All in all - one of the best stand ups I have ever ridden, although I am not a fan of these types of coasters. Mainly because after standing in line for 45 minutes to ride... I really would like to sit down. Enough said.

One of those operators, Kattie ( forgive me if I am spelling your name wrong ) was so kind and considerate. Every time that we passed by her, the next day also, she would remember us and say hello.
Oh well, maybe tomorrow. For now, back to the Holiday Inn.

DAY 7 - Wednesday - 5/17 Cedar Point - MF or bust

Wow! Weather could not have been better today. We did however get to the park about 45 min late, again. We went straight for MF this time, they said it would be running when the park opened.
Millennium Force - Well, it was not open yet. However people were still lined up for the ride. The line stretched from the entrance all the way back to the Thunder Canyon area. However, when the ride opened the que filled up and the line was not near as long as it was the day before. I want to say it took 2:20 wait time for the first time we rode. The line moved slow with the red train only at first, then things picked up after adding the blue train. (later in the day, after we had ridden, the yellow train was added for about an hour I think).
We got to ride in the front seat of the second car of the red train. This coaster is nothing short of incredible. It is just as smooth and fast as I have heard. Wow! The first hill is over and done with almost before you realize it. The overbanked turns do not even seem that way at all.
The cars have no over the shoulder restraints to get in the way either. I especially like the bucket style seats which are tall and seem to wrap around you a bit. And that tiny lap bar which is kinda like the one on Apollo's Chariot.
The track is absolutly beautiful, almost majestic.
I got in line to ride again. This time in the blue train. Front seat of the last car. I think I prefered this ride to the last one.

Myself and my girlfriend just got back from a coastering trip to Ohio. This is our first trip to the Buckeye state and my first attempt at a trip report. Our trip spans 4 parks over the course of a week's time... we also had time to see a little bit of PA also.

DAY 1 - Thursday - 5/11 - Travel Day

We flew into Columbus because this was the cheapest air fare I could find, and also it seemed centrally located to everything. Then we got into our Thrifty silver Neon and drove toward Cleveland. We stayed at the Baymont Inn off of Route 8.

DAY 2 - Friday - 5/12 - Six Flags Ohio, Aurora.

After consuming mass quantities of Baymont's free continental breakfast we drove to the park about 30 minutes away. We got to the park at 11am, not very many cars for a park that opened at 9am.
We were greeted at the gate by the park manager who noticed that we were both sporting yellow SFoT season passes. Apparently he came from SFoT... small world huh.
SUPERMAN: ULTIMATE ESCAPE - Whoosh, this coaster will give you a rush. We rode up front and in the rear for a total of 4 rides. Although I had heard about it, we were still caught off guard when the train stopped for a couple of seconds on the rear tower. A weird sensation just hanging like that.
MIND ERASER - Just like the Flashback back home.
BIG DIPPER - This may be the first time I have ridden a coaster with manual brakes. We really liked riding this one from the middle car. Next, we tried to double our pleasure by riding it in the last seat. I held my hands up, BIG mistake. I was squashed in my seat on either the first or the second drop and heard something pop or crack inside me. I was pretty much in a little bit of pain for the remainder of the trip. I really liked the fact that the coaster uses the hills in the terrain to its advantage. This coaster did not seem very long at all... maybe due to the speed? All in all... now one of my favorite woodies.
VORTEX - Whew! Lots of track. Rode this one in the middle. The shoulder restraint kept hitting me in the neck... very uncomfortable.
OUTER LIMITS - This one should be called OUCHer unLIMITed. Hard to enjoy when you have to crane your neck to keep from banging your head against the restraints. Just as bad as its mirror in VA.
RACER - Rode facing frontwards, enjoyable ride.
ADVENTURE EXPRESS - Pleasantly surprised on this one. Kinda different that it begins on a hill and has a chain lift at the end. While standing in line, I heard many comments on how lame this coaster was. I did not feel that way. For a mine train it was good. And I liked the theming at the end on the lift hill. Although I thought this portion looked suspiciously like the Eye of Myra part of the Indian Jones ride in Disneyland.
BEASTIE - Big kiddie coaster... impressive. Small cars though. I am 6'2" and had a very difficult time getting in this one. Fun.
TAXI JAM - Ride Op was new on this one I think. The train before us had to be pushed onto chain and was braked way too early on return. Thus had to be pushed by two employees. Our ride was by a different op and was less eventful. One for the coaster count.
SCOOBY DOO'S GHOST COASTER - Now about 11:30am and the lines begin. One hour wait so I could add this to my coaster list. Unique ride, would have been fun if it were longer.
FOOD - Skyline Chili - chili cheese coney and pasta with chili, cheese, onions... NASTY! Cheese was as flavorful as a half melted orange sink scouring sponge and chili was like something rejected by the ALPO plant. Uuhuhuhuhuhuhuh! (I hope I am not dis'n some sort of regional favorite... I can't imagine. Note: Seemed kind of strange for the park to open 30 min before any thing else opened in the park, and I am including shops and food stands.
Closed: Bayern Curve and Flying Carpet. I have heard that Bayern Curve is closed alot... At least no coasters are closed. Yippeeeee!
Breakfast: French Fries and a soda. Best French Fries I have had at any park EVER. Can't recall the last time I got fries and a coke at a park for 3 dollars. Great value.
JACK RABBIT - Cool coaster. Small size yes, but very interesting. This one drops into a gorge twice before the chain lift. I especially like the double drop after the lift. Kinda like the big slides that most parks used to have.
RACER - another cool woodie
STEEL PHANTOM - I got to ride this one with something like 114 days until it is torn down. Or at least that is what the sign says at the gate. This one does not seem near as rough as I was expecting although I rode it in the middle car and then the rear.
THUNDER BOLT - Never did I think I would get the chance to ride this one either. Very cool, nice that the last drop is the big one, different. Only one train running. No wait time so we rode this one 4 or 5 times in a row.
THE EXTERMINATOR - What a surprise! A spinning mouse and plenty of darkness. Good theming. Rode it 3 times.
LIL' PHANTOM - Darn shame I could not add this one to my count. I exceeded the height requirement. I could not find a kid to ride with. Oh well.
OTHERS - So much old and cool stuff I had to do it all. Acording to the attendant, MF would not open until noon or so. Something about paint having to dry or at least that is what we were told. So in the mean time we just walked around a little and rode whatever we happened upon. The Drizzle seemed to shut down MF quite often, so much so that I decided to save it until Wednesday. In the meantime I would ride everything else.
RAPTOR - This was the first thing we rode, MISTAKE. With MF not coming on line until after noon, this coaster had quite a line. Almost an hour, I think. Plus, apparently it was some sort of school physics day and the park had many students in line.
Finally we boarded for our 'flight'. I now consider this either my #2 or #3 inverted coaster behind Montu.
All three trains were running that day which made for a quicker than expected moving que.
DISASTER TRANSPORT - I have heard this one ragged on in the past. It's not bad, although I am not sure that I consider it a coaster. I do like the theming though, and best of all, no wait time.
Big Wheel - Girlfriend insisted on this one.
WILDCAT - I am a huge fan of Schwarzkopf coasters. They always seem to deliver plenty of fast fun. Even on the little bitty ones like this.
IRON DRAGON - I liked the mist thing at the end.
CORKSCREW - Yet another arrow corkscrew. Woohoo.
MANTIS - Tallest stand up I have ever been on. Very quick loading when compared to King Cobra in PKI. I think I was in the seat a little too high. Kinda like riding a bike you are too short for over a ramp... OUCH! Oh yeah, lets not forget the head boxing restraint system... Double OUCH! All in all - one of the best stand ups I have ever ridden, although I am not a fan of these types of coasters. Mainly because after standing in line for 45 minutes to ride... I really would like to sit down. Enough said.

One of those operators, Kattie ( forgive me if I am spelling your name wrong ) was so kind and considerate. Every time that we passed by her, the next day also, she would remember us and say hello.
Oh well, maybe tomorrow. For now, back to the Holiday Inn.

DAY 7 - Wednesday - 5/17 Cedar Point - MF or bust

Wow! Weather could not have been better today. We did however get to the park about 45 min late, again. We went straight for MF this time, they said it would be running when the park opened.
Millennium Force - Well, it was not open yet. However people were still lined up for the ride. The line stretched from the entrance all the way back to the Thunder Canyon area. However, when the ride opened the que filled up and the line was not near as long as it was the day before. I want to say it took 2:20 wait time for the first time we rode. The line moved slow with the red train only at first, then things picked up after adding the blue train. (later in the day, after we had ridden, the yellow train was added for about an hour I think).
We got to ride in the front seat of the second car of the red train. This coaster is nothing short of incredible. It is just as smooth and fast as I have heard. Wow! The first hill is over and done with almost before you realize it. The overbanked turns do not even seem that way at all.
The cars have no over the shoulder restraints to get in the way either. I especially like the bucket style seats which are tall and seem to wrap around you a bit. And that tiny lap bar which is kinda like the one on Apollo's Chariot.
The track is absolutly beautiful, almost majestic.
I got in line to ride again. This time in the blue train. Front seat of the last car. I think I prefered this ride to the last one.

That was an amazing trip report Backseat. I'm glad to hear everything went well for you. I'm sure next time you'll have an easier time planning since you've been to the area once already. You'll know better how much time to devote to each park.

Skyline rules around here in Cincy. It just sucks at PKI. Don't know why. The Skyline here at UC is always packed every Friday night around 1 or 2 in the morning. Anyways, Great TR!

We really enjoyed our stay in Ohio and PA. I think it was the people there that made the trip cool. Everyone we met was so friendly.
We will still need to come back sometime in the future to check out SOB. I hope to be able to work in some of the other parks we missed at that time.
