2006 3 Coasters Around Louisville Area

Well, in that case, Get T2 out. There is no hope for that ride. And the capacity is horrible. 7 car trains? Come on now.:)

As for them getting a new coaster next year, I doubt it too stlcoasterguy77. But SFKK does support itself and while they might not get a coaster next year, they might add a nice flat or two. And I think that they could install a coaster in the next several years. But who knows.

Hypothesizing Rules!!! :)

As far as T2 goes, it's staying. Wow, that was confusing. Rephrase: T2 isn't going any where. Even though it's rougher then driving on the moon at 60 mph, the stupid GP like it and always has at least a 20-30 minute wait mid-weekdays, and up to about hour and a half on Saturdays. The only places for them to put in a new coaster is either behind Chang, or a parking lot coaster (which I doubt because KEFC needs as much parking lot as possible). I see the possibility of a few flats next year. Hopefully Quake will resurect and be reborned into a functional ride. It is still behind Blizzard River, so it could come back. Seems to me that if they didn't want it any more, they would have scrapped it, but it's still at the park.

I know that Six Flags is getting 3 new coasters. I hope one goes to SFKK

Rides sit in the boneyards or parking lots of parks for years... Quake was taken out for a reason, it most likely won't be back
If SF is really only getting three new coasters, SFKK is definitely not getting one!

OMG I have a new sig!!!
Us who live in the region can dream though, can't we? SFKK may be a lower-tier park for SF, but they hold their own. They've wormed their way into many peoples hearts in the tri-state area and seem to always do well enough for the chain.

Their not a destination park, but they're worth a stop while around Louisville, or traffic returning from HW. Whether or not all that adds up to a new coaster or not...I don't know.

Some new flats would be great though. See how HW does next year with "Voyage", (we all predict business will be incredible!), and you'll see SF get more serious about KK's future. And maybe then we can expect another coaster. SFKK does have a nice little collection going though, (minus T2).

The Twins are decent, (it's always better when they actually race 'em).

My kids love the Roller Skater.

Chang is the only stand-up I truly love riding.

And Thunder Run & Greezed Lightnin' are just great rides!...just my opinion though.

Now officially a Halloween Haunt Cornstalker for Fall '08! www.freewebs.com/chadmicah

The chance for SFSTL getting a new coaster for 2006 isn't even that good too. ***

By isnt good, you mean zip zadda nothing. The coaster was pushed back in early Feb/late Jan till 07 at best. It was original being built in 03, but kept getting pushed back. Yet again this year it was pushed back. And frankly I dont blame them for there is 3 new coasters going in with in a 3.5/4 hour drive of the park.

Next year look for a revamp or demolition of Old Chicago games. And POSSIBLY two flats. We will be lucky to get a flat or "attraction". So keep your breaths held tight. And they should finish out the retracking.

And to prove the no new coaster for 06, take a ride on SE.

SFKK could take out Top-E. It hasn't been open for about a month and the zone 3 sup says that the dragsters' computers aren't communicating with each other. Even when it is open, I don't think it makes enough money to be classified as "we need this attraction." I would like to see an Intamin rocket there named Top Eliminator Dragster.(insert little smiley thing here) But seriously, take out Top-E and the techs' house in the corner of Top-E and Blizzard, and you'll have a decent plot of land.

Man seriously though, I didn't get a pass this year cause they didn't add anything but that Tornado. Next year, I would buy a pass if
1. They get a cool flat or something.
2. They repaint Chang. It looks so horrible.
I mean if they need help choosing colors I could help. A really vibrant orange spine, bright yellow ties and rails, and a darker shade of purple. There ya go.:)

Yeah T2 might have some popularity with the general public, but I think there is another reason the line is long typically. They only have 1, 7 car train that seats 14 people. So I thinks its capacity might be the lowest for a coaster at that park, even with thunder run running 1 train and a wild mouse and shuttle coaster.

For example, according to roller coaster database, its ride time is 1 minute and 36 seconds. Assume another minute to unload and load. That gives a cycle time of 2 minutes and 36 seconds. So that comes out to be 23 cycles an hour. With 14 people a cycle the theoretical capacity of T2 is 322 people an hour.

That is probably one of the worst capacities for an adult steel coaster at any park. Also the fact that they have two trains and can see the other on the transfer track is kind of confusing on why they would run one train. Especially considering that the train only seats 14 people.

T2 has two trains, but both are only used on Saturdays or unusually high attendance weekdays to adaquately help budgetting costs.

Yeah they do have 2 trains, but even on a sunday on fourth of july weekend with a 30 minute wait, they only had one. That was earlier on the day, and even Chang had 1 train than which really does not make sense. In the past, even on less busy sundays when I was there, Chang had two but was running 1 on the most crowded weekend for the amusement park industry.

But even with 2 trains on T2 your looking at one of the worst capacities for any roller coaster. So now you have 2 trains that seat 14 passengers, so your probably having a theoretical capacity of 644 people per hour.

That is the best case it can do, running 2 trains, having each train completely filled and dispatching them at a good pace. With two trains I have a feeling they would stack them anyway and probably fill up the trains with at least one empty seat (probably 90 percent filled on average). So the ride should have a large line even with 2 trains, since it does not push many people.

The rides popularity is thus debatable since it is hard to tell whether it would have a line if it had a decent capacity. It also benefits from being next to Chang, which seems like the most popular ride at the park.

On unrelated news there has been speculation in the area that Six Flags has considered the idea of moving the entire park to a more spacious location. My sources around the area have told me that the area near Sparta near the Kentucy Speedway is a possibility that they have considered moving the park too.

There is hundreds of acres of farmland, and the word going around the farmers in that area is that Six Flags will buy up that land and they will make it big. Although this is just a rumor, there is some reason for me to believe that it could be a possibility. The current location at the fair grounds and split between the highway has limited expansion room. The attendance of the park has been flat for the last few years and new rides would help it but they are not willing to expand to quickly there and use all the available land.

And with Six Flags under new leadership and evaluating their property and land, now would be the time to consider moving it. There has been a few cases where a park has moved most of their rides for land or other reasons. Elitch Gardens moved to a downtown location for that reason, although it was not that well received by Coaster Enthusiasts because the loss of the wooden coasters at the original park. To a certain degree, the decision to close Coney Island in cincinnati and create Kings Island with some existing rides and trees from the old park is another example.

So just thought I would let people know that there is a possibilty of them moving the entire park. Will it happen is any ones guess and right now I would not consider them to do it overnight, since these moves would take a few years of planning and construction.

It's a prototype...what do you expect?

I heard rumors of a mouse at IB but you know what I'd happily give a kidney to have Anton Schwarzkopf's Bullet just a four hour drive away. Other than that I can't see PKI adding a new coaster just yet after how much IJST cost.

Here's something no one has mentioned what about SFStL? They are just a 4 hour drive from Louisville and it has been a while since much money was spent there.

Well..

SFOG is getting one.
SFGadv is getting one.

SFMM by the looks of it MIGHT be getting one.

So *if* theres only 3, theres your answer. Although it is too early to know for sure what everypark may be getting. The best you can do is wait for the announcement.

SFStL is not getting a coaster next year. For one thing, it would be very overshadowed by the opening of Busch Stadium III.

I think that IB should get a spinng coaster like Spinning Dragons. That would go over great there.

rollergator's avatar
*Everyone* should have a spinning coaster....the fun factor is VERY high, and even if the intensity isn't on the par of an Intamin launcher, most park-goers seem to really enjoy them...even most of the enthusiasts I know seem *enthused* about spinning coasters...:)

Side note: Galaxy Spin is open at Cypress...;)

Of course, you can *always* buy another spinner, Antons just aren't being made any more...

I just wish Gerstlauer buyers would quit cloning KCS-MOA's coaster. I wanna see what else they can do!

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

... and it would simple to place it over existing rides, Swoosh. I'm not so sure that Bullet would fit, or at least fit as well as a spinning coaster. But, if anyone would could do it, it would be IB.
