2005 a Breakout year for CF?

It seems forums are a buzz with CF for 05. With Dick retiring in 07; Is it possible that 05 and 07 will be the hugh breakout years for the parks? It would be a great move to launch or try to corridinate major attactions in all parks in one season. It would definately look good on paper to increase at all the parks attendance in all properties. CP upgrading the resort side of the park in 04 sounds like groundwork for 05's new attraction. We know Dorney will have a new B&M. Knott's is setting up the site for a new coaster. Rumors of WOF getting rid of OE for a new coaster. MA long rumored Hyper? Or maybe it's just all hype?

Probably all hype. Why would a chain try to have a big year across all its parks? It's not like they save advertising costs or that people on the new Knott's coaster will care or will have even heard what MiA got in the same year. In fact, the only people that would care are the 0.01% of their attendance that is comprised of dorks like us.

Dorks like *whom*, AA? ;)

CF does a really good job of paying dividends and balancing their checkbook *routinely*, so I don't expect CF as a chain to ever have what you might call a "breakout year", it's just not their style....slow but steady. One of two of their parks may have a big year, like TTD and/or Steel Venom, but don't anticipate them having big years at more than one or two of the *sister parks* simulataneously....;)

CF built 3 of the tallest coasters in the world at one of their parks and they haven't had a "breakout" year yet?
If you ask me, the breakout year was 2000 when CF built MF, VF's PT, Perilous Plunge and WOF's Boomerang. DP added Camp Snoopy and an additional Wild Mouse.

As for another year that big: Why? To compete with Six Flags' new offerings?

maybe 05 will be better than 04. Well see. You have a couple of good points.

WHAT no coaster to be built in Ohio in 04? Why are we being punished! What next? No more Rollercoaster Tycoon expansion packs.

I'd like to see a poll of how often CP (in the minds of some people) is represented as the entire CF chain... CF is the best chain ever!!!!!111one Tey hav teh b1ggst coASterzz!... Yeah, and I'd barely decide to take Dorney, my favorite non-CP CF park, over Kentucky Kingdom, my least favorite SF park...

MA throws off the curve a little.

Well the part about getting a new coaster isn't rumor. The name is common knowledge now and the actual press release will arrive next week. (if you are still clueless on this - which I will be surprised if you are, see my sig)

In my opinion Cedar Fair adding big things to all there parks would look good on paper, and that would help them sell more shares of stock, after all Cedar Fair is a publicly traded company, and getting people to buy their stock is a pretty high priority, yet not the biggest
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought Cedar Fair was a limited partnership?

It is.

Cedar Fair isn't in the business of selling stock (or in this case, patnership units), they're in the business of turning a profit (duh). Putting big rides in every park is only a good idea if it generates higher attendance. That's what they call return on investment, and it is very much the company line on their decision to build things. If there is no ROI, there is no spending.

That ROI is important to unit holders because at the end of every quarter, the unit holders get dividends, currently .44 per unit per quarter.

Love it! I don't know any Cedar Fair unitholder who isn't happy with the .44 per share.
in my mind a break out year would be if...

CP got a 4D

VF got a B&M inverted coaster

Knotts got a impulse

MiA got a Intamin Mega coaster

WoA got a flyer, B&M, or Vekoma

DP got a stand up

and...

I hit the lotto, school drinking fountains were full of kool aid, the Cavs win the NBA championship, etc.

Your expectations aren't just a little high, are they?

Been there, done that, plan failed, company lost money, everybody dumped the stock, it sold for as little as $3 and stabilized at $6 while CF sells for 4 times as much.

And CF would go down like SF why?

I forgot to mention that companies don't make money on stock unless they own it and sell it. That only happens when new shares/units are issued, and I believe it has been awhile since Cedar Fair issued units. In fact, I think they bought back some in the last few years.

Getting back to the "break out" year, 2004 will be a pretty good one as well. WOF & KCS are both getting spinning mouses (Timberline Twister & Spinning Dragon). Knott's is getting a new style Huss Top Spin (and then later on Silver Bullet). CP is getting that indoor waterpark and more resort expansion. I'm sure DP and VF will get pretty exciting flat rides, and then MiA will get that new bench we've all been talking about. So 2004 won't be too shabby. :)
