2003 at Six Flags Elitch Gardens

I thought I would pass along a little news regarding this park. Though there aren't any new rides for this season there is at least one major change. The original Mr. Twister trains are being retired and replaced with new PTCs, which hopefully will make the ride more enjoyable and do less damage to the track. Also some rides have been overhauled this off season including Big Wheel (Chance Giant Wheel) and Turn of the Century (Vekoma Swinging Carousel aka Generic WaveSwinger).

Thats nice to see the changes, but it is bitter sweet to see the original trains go. I noticed the Big Wheel taken down in the off season and never could figure out the point. Anways, only a month and half or so left!!!

You mean Big Wheel wasn't being melted down to make track for the Giga Coaster we're supposed to be getting next year? :)

Dang.

To add to J's post, they also did rehab work on Chaos, and the new Twister II trains will be articulated and have American Flag designs running down the sides of them.

I don't have to respect you yet J, because I'm not officially hired yet! They couldn't read information off of a copy of my birth certificate, so I have to go back Monday with the original. You don't have control over me yet!!!

Hey Mustang, do you like hot dogs? If you're not careful I might start spelling your name Mustard. Or maybe you can be in charge of Hollywood and Vine and Spider for the summer.

It was kind of interesting seeing Big Wheel's supports sticking up with no wheel there. :)

Will the new trains be any longer to increase capacity? I seem to remeber that the old ones only held 20 people, or am I wrong?

I believe the new trains will also be holding twenty people. I haven't seen the trains, but I assume that if the trains were longer I would have heard about modifications to the station to accomodate more rows.
Just a quick thing about the aquarium across the river, the Post today shows a picture of the ferris wheel at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston, which is also a Chance Giant Wheel. So if Landry's builds the same wheel at the Ocean Journey, there will be two Giant Wheels across the river from each other.

The trains are going to be a little longer because they are going to be three bench trains, not articulated trains. You can see some photos of the new trains being built here:

Actually they are 3-bench articulated, with 4 cars per train, a total of 24 riders
