120 mph and bumblebees of death

Last year I had two bad bug incidents. In June I went to SFA during a nice warm, clear day. Big mistake as anybody who lived in the DC area can tell you, the cicadas where heavy last year. Everyride I was on I got hit by the cicadas. Superman being the worst. But I'll be honest, I loved it, seeing as how they only come out every 20 years or something like that.

Also at Hershey on wildcat in the summer I ended up eating a lighting bug on Wildcat.

Riding in the rain was a lot more fun then I thought it would be. Last Fright Fest I was at SFGAm on a Friday night and it was pouring rain. I got on Raging Bull at about 10:30 and never got off. About 10 re-rides in the pouring rain on a 40 degree pitch black night. A guy next to me stood up in between rides one time and put his hooded sweatshirt on backwards so the hood was covering his face. Those were some of my favorite rides on Raging Bull.

Gravity knows no force but Millennium Force.
I went all last season & never once did I get hit by a single cicada....guess I was just lucky though.

We probably hit more of them things driving to the park than on any of the rides & BTW it's once every 17 years, not 30 that the cicadas make their annual appearance.

Where YOU the guy who got ack to the station, and yanked his shirt off to remove a bee??

Yes! Were you there??

Yup, I witnessed that, lol.

Wow I'm not going to re-quote everything that was just said above but that's some crazy sutff. I've never heard of something like that before...

covering your face with your hands is the only logic thing to do, but i liek to see where i am goign next. especially on Milli, thats my baby.

I gotta chime in here and say don't do it! In 2001 during Millennium Mania I had 15 consecutive rides on MF in some seriously hard and very cold rain. Halfway through those rides I decided to hold one hand up and have my other hand covering my face to deflect the rain. As the train pulled out from the drop and started through the first overbanked turn it felt like somebody grabbed my upper arm/shoulder with both hands and wrenched it back hard! I remember thinking "Don't cry, they might not let you ride again" the pain was that bad. I finished out the rest of my rides sitting on my hands due to the cold and keeping my head down. Looking back I should have went to the doctor because that pain lasted a good 3 weeks. Going to work was a lesson in pain endurance. Even driving my car and glancing over my shoulder to check my blind spot while changing lanes hurt like heck. I definitely felt The Force that day. ;)

When I rode MF up front in the rain, there was no way of just covering my face--damned if I didn't try though. There was no way to get away from the stinging without ducking down and assuming the plane crash position. It was honestly the most prolonged excruciating thing I've ever been through. It did add a very different element to the ride though.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
Just imagine how the bugs feel seeing this humongous metallic creature with dozens of arms moving very quickly toward them.
Hey- it hurts when it rains. I'd hate to be hit by a bee on TTD.

Bee on TTD? OUCH!
Add me to the list of people that has ridden MF front seat in the rain. Fun and painful at the sam time!

I hit a bug on my arm on TTD, I had a small bruise (eraser head size) for about a wekk. It was worth it.

There was the Apollo's Chariot incident with Fabio and a bird... But that's just really damn funny. I feel sorry for the bird though... Death by Fabio's face.

Fabio was on the radio station here in VA today, and they asked him about the incident. He laughed it off.

Anyway, I don't think the problem is with bugs, but the metal cable sheering and getting the shrapnel in your face....
