0 gravity roll vs corkscrew

LuvRaptor's avatar

When I was watching Horntail (fka Ice) running its course today when I was on Fireball's (fka Fire) lift, I was paying close attention to its 0 gravity roll, then saw it do 1 of its corkscrews.

I got to wondering how you define the difference in a 0 gravity roll and a corkscrew? The ONLY thing I can think is maybe you're in a gravity roll longer then a corkscrew??

Figured this would be the perfect place to get the answer! :)

IMO they are the same, the entrances are just "stretched out" a bit more. You could make the argument that vertical loops fall into the same category as well.

A roll is a roll. The center line of the roll stays in the same plane throughout the maneuver. A corkscrew's center line does not stay in the same plane.

I disagree that a roll is a roll. A coffee roll is much better than a dinner roll.

That said, the heart rolls tend to disorient me a little more than the corkscrews. Perhaps because they happen quicker.

The basic answer is, look at the element in the direction of travel. If you see a circle, it's a corkscrew. If you see a line, it's a zero-g roll.

Both are much better than back rolls :-)

Anyhowser, I think The last two inversions on Aplie confuse me. Are they corks or inline twists?

RCDB says the first is a Zero-G roll and the second is a cork.

Vater isn't on a roll. He's on a bran muffin.
