Coasting for Kids 2010?

Bummer - I was hoping for SFGAm being one of the sites for it this year...

I am having trouble getting people to donate. No one want's to. I've raised $5 so far, from my Mom. lol I've repeatedly posted it on my MySpace, Facebook, and have sent e-mails to everyone that I know. I have told everyone that I know, friends, family, and acquaintances about it when I see them in my daily life, and have even wrote the First Giving website address down for these people many times.

I'm finding that it's difficult to get people to rally behind GKtW. I briefly tell everyone my personal story about seeing GKtW work when I lived in Orlando, but even that doesn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me raise money?

I will have a news story about it in the paper this week or next, depending on space. I also plan on doing a follow up piece after the event to gain interest for next year. Maybe that'll help get the ball rolling.

I have found most people will donate as the event gets closer, let them know about it now so they can plan on making a donation next payday.

Most people I know live paycheck to paycheck they usually will donate for a good cause, but they have to budget for it. I have also found more people give me cash to turn in the day of the event. They want their full donation going to GKTW, not the transaction fees.

HAHA. Wealthier friends wouldn't hurt either.

I'll hit up all of my coworkers on payday.

Jeff, was this event organized by CoasterBuzz in part, or totally? I'm asking because I am almost finished with my news story about it for the newspaper, but I just need that tiny little fact straightened out first.

No one has donated for me yet, except for my Mommy. lol Hopefully, this news story will help. My extreme excitement for raising money is slowly stagnating.

I was unaware that I could take donations myself and give them when I get to the park. Can anyone tell me how that works? I didn't find it on the First Giving web site.

You collect cash and or checks and turn them in on-site. On your collections page there is a spot to manually enter these numbers.

No, CoasterBuzz is more the promoting agent than anything else. Most of the organizational effort is by Cedar Fair and GKTW. It's our job to get the word out.

Last year we were able too see everyone's donation progress. I can't find it anywhere this year. Am I not looking hard enough?

I don't remember a composite tally, but I'm sure the folks in Central Florida will keep us updated. It's a lot bigger now that they have to track 11 different locations!

I was wondering how many people we have registered at each location. Is there a minimum required in order to have the event?

I don't remember a composite tally,

While I don'd remember exactly what it looked like, Dave, myself and others were doing regular tallys by going through a list of all the people who were signed up. http://coasterbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/56212.aspx?page=2#782923

As of now 24 people have signed up.World's of Fun 1, Valleyfair 1, Dorney 4, Kings Island 7, Cedar Point 11.

It takes a little time to seach through all of the pages, I'll keep you updated. Hopefully more people sign up as the event gets closer. Three 1/2 weeks to go.

The events are going to happen regardless. In addition to getting people to donate, it would also be awesome if you could get friends to take part at the park you're closest to. I think that'll make a huge difference.

Here are the preliminary details by park, so far. The timing was a little weird with the holiday weekend, so this stuff is rolling in. I'm pretty sure there will be T-shirts at every location too, but I'm not positive just yet.

So is there a reason Carowinds was left out? I can understand Gilroy. When I heard it was only 11 of the parks, I was assuming the park that got left out would be Canada's Wonderland or Michigan's Adventure.

It wasn't left out, I just missed it.
