Greased Lightnin' photo from California's Great America

The first versions of the Schwarzkopf shuttle have a pusher attached to a continuous cable. Simply put, when the weight drops, the pusher (in contact with the rear car seen here) accelerates until it reaches the end of the launch, where it is wound (via motor) underneath the track for the next run.
