DARIEN CENTER, NY – Six Flags Darien Lake, in conjunction with Buffalo’s ABC affiliate, WKBW-TV, presents the FIRST EVER Slingshot Wedding May 10, 2003 at 2:00pm. After saying “I do,” two thrill-seeking adventurers will be launched nearly 300 feet in the air in an exciting and unique wedding ceremony.

Roger Schwab, of Clarence, NY, and fiancée Isabel Navarro of Mexico City, Mexico will marry at 2:00pm on the Slingshot, a reverse bungee thrill ride that catapults riders 300 feet high at speeds of up to 80 mph!

According to this brave couple, adventure is part of their lives. Roger, Isabel and their friends have camped on the active volcano, Popocatepetl, they’ve examined previously unexplored caverns (bats included), and have been atop forbidden pyramids.

“I finally found someone who shares a passion for adventure. We do everything in the ‘nick of time’ – we are fearless,” says Roger.

The couple met at UNAM (Universidad National Autonoma de Mexico, Mexico City) in 1989 where Roger taught English and Isabel attended as a student of Italian Literature. After three years of dating, in June of 1992, Roger and Isabel were engaged to be married.

“We planned on getting married in May of 1993, but everything immediately became quite chaotic with work, moves, travel and time, so it was impossible to achieve that goal. What could be more exciting and perfect than getting married in the first ever Slingshot Wedding ceremony at Six Flags Darien Lake, 10 years after our first planned wedding date?” both add.

Roger, a two-time world arm wrestling champion and 2002 Olympic Torch bearer, and Isabel, an autodidactic Italian professor, enjoy activities such as running, camping, skiing, biking and are both certified SCUBA divers.
