Wildfire

Anyone who has ridden Wildfire may have noticed that it's considerably quieter than other B&M's. Every other B&M I've ridden has that low "roar" that you can hear from some distance away. But the noise of Wildfire is barely audible even on the exit platform right next to it. Anyone (RideMan?) know why this is? Did B&M add something to quiet their coasters? I kinda like the noise...
The track of Wildfire has sand, or some other material in the box section of the track.. That's why it quiter than most other B&M creations...
I am not positive but I read somewhere that the quieter B&M's have sand filled through the tubular track. This dims the sound.

That's it. I believe it's the spine of the track.
I talked to a man who was involved in the silencing of Dueling Dragons, and he said they didn't use sand, but what he described as "pea gravel" because it doesn't hold moisture like sand does.

Cool...I didn't know that. Is the sand in the track itself or the box spine or both? I always thought it was probably the hollow box spine that made the noise. Also, when did B&M start this? The Raging Bull is only '99 and it has "the noise." And I'm pretty sure Kraken does too.
I don't know where it is. I think the box spine, but maybe it's the rails too. Dueling Dragons and Medusa West have this, as does Talon I believe. It gets rid of the noise, but I kind of miss it! Also, it adds to the price tag. I think I read in Amusement today that it added $500,000 to Talon's price tag to silence it.

B&M's are some of the loudest coasters. The worst has got to be when you're waiting in line for Medusa East and the train goes into the Zero-G roll right over your head. Ouch. Great Bear is also insanely loud. But after a discussion with several other enthusiasts yesterday we determined that The Chiller by Premier Rides at Great Adventure might be the loudest coaster ever.
Great Bear's "roar" is awesome. It adds some character to the ride. Talon is probably better off without the noise anyway.

Speaking of Wildfire, I've been searching all over the internet for some pics of Wildfire and can't find a site that has some. Can anyone help me out?
I miss the roar. Most all B&M's don't have it anymore. Kumba is the best sounding coaster ever. And yes, if anyone has good pics of wildfire, i want them!

Don't touch the watch.
I was thinking: how much extra would it cost to fill in the box spine with steel? Most likely this doesnt happen, so its hollow, which most likely produces the sound. Fill it in, and sound go away.

With steel? I'd imagine that would add a hefty price on there, not to mention that the track would weigh a LOT more, resulting in the need for stronger supports. That'd be more money. Steel dosen't absorb sound either, if I'm not mistaken. I believe it carries it. Sand absorbs it, and that's why they use it to silence "the sound."
I think that the idea of using sand is cool. Kudos to B&M.

I sat in the front seat in November.

Just thought I'd share. It wasn't much of a ride seeing as how it was in Atlanta.

FYI Kraken is incredibly silent as well.

Thanks, Dustijin!! Man, Wildfire looks awsome!! I wish I could go to SDC for a ride on Wildfire. *** This post was edited by X COASTER on 4/14/2001. ***
I'm going to SDC with ACE in May to ride. Nothing like having ERT on a brand new B&M!
