ThrillRide! to close its doors after five years

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

ThrillRide founder Robert Coker announced that after five years, his site ThrillRide! will close on July 13. The site has consistanly been one of the most popular roller coaster sites on the Internet, and is well known for its outstanding ride reviews and "Wild Rumors." The site has been quoted by several parks and popular media over the site's run.

Visit ThrillRide!.

Yeah that is a shame that its time for him to move on. I enjoyed that site alot as well. Good thing coasterbuzz and several other sites are still here for all us coaster fans to enjoy. Hopefully someone else will take over the site and keep the Wild Rumors section
Crap, I hope this doesn't happen to the buzz. Now that would suck.
Thrillride was such a great webpage. I got some good laughs (and sometimes some good info) out of the Wild Rumors section. In fact, there were many times that I have added some info about my home park (SFGAm) into the mix.

The thing I will miss most about Thrillride is Rob's Ride Reviews. The ones that stick out in my mind was the one about the Beast. The way he wrote the review made you almost feel that you were there right along with him. He had a great way with telling about his experiences with coasters. The language he used, the words he choose...it made the reveiw. I remember getting chills up and down my spine when I read his trip report about riding the 300 foot tall skycoaster down in Florida. He made me FEEL like I was there with him.

Since the site is down right now, I cannot go out there to read what Rob has to say. But, I do want to say that Thrillride will be missed, and I wish Rob the best of luck in whatever he does next.

Jeff, don't even think about it. Now you have no competition :)

You know, Thrillride! was a true pioneer in the coaster world. It was, in my mind, the first truly great coaster site, and probably when it was at its peak, nothing will beat it. So many of those early ride reveiws were simply works or art of the highest order. And of course, the wild rumors page will be missed by so many.....

The day that I spend more time analyzing the rides than screaming my head off like a moron is the day that I hope someone will kick my in the love sausage and tell me not to be a moron. - Jeff
Thrillride.com is, well, was a great web site. The rumors on the site were awesome. The ride reviews were awesome, too. So long thrillride.com!

Figures, It HAD to happen to one of the best sites out there! *** This post was edited by Coaster File on 7/8/2001. ***
My first reaction when the CB homepage loaded up...."Daaaaamn!" I didn't go there often, but it's still surprising.

I am so frustrated....I loved Thrillride! Oh well....at least I get to ride Steel Dragon 2000 on Monday the 16th!
IMO the site began to go downhill when he tried to commercialize it all. It was much better when it was more personal and had a "homey" feeling.

I am sad to see it go. I loved to read their "Whopper of the week" rumors.

Wonder what he'll get for those 2 URL's?
Actually, there has been a rumors board added to the forums. It will be heavily moderated so only the believable ones will be posted. It is not as good as the original, but hey, it is still Thrillride rumors!

I can't get the boards to load. Are they at that new url he talked about?

Lying requires 2 people.
1 to lie and 1 to listen.
very sad, i go to the page everyday im on, along with coasterbuzz. it will be missed. :(
I think the forums might still be around...Oh well.
Well, i know that everyone will miss it, but i think that some of us top 5 posters will miss it most, Me (Nosk8er) Kraken Medusa CoasterMan Dingo it was the most personnal forums i had ever been on, although the forums will still be there it will not be the same.

I had always looked for good coaster sites, then 6 months ago i found 2 thanks to coaster buzz Bear-yTales.com and Thrillride.com, bear-ytales was absorbed into westcoaster.net which went the same way as thrillride (new commercialized) hopefuly it will not meet the same fate. I fell in love with thrillride when the new look came online.

I want to say thankyou to Bob, his ride reviews inspire my own writing. he kept what i feel to be one of the best sites on any subject. I can only hope that the failure of thrillride did not leave him financially wounded. and that he lives a happy life with many coasters in the future.
Oh my God!
I can't get on the site either.

Can anyone tell us exactly why he's taking it down? Was it because of the money? Or we're the forums too much work to keep up?

The ride reviews are the best.

The weekly rumors section got a little bit lengthy since the board was revamped. Was it too much work for him to do this?

Sorry to see it go. I hope he comes back and does ride reviews. Noone can write them like him.
