The Future of Coaster Height

Now that we are at 300+ feet, what is the limit? Is it possible to hit 400 feet? Is there any plans on breaking the 400 foot mark? Is there already a topic like this? And finally: What would a 400 footer be called (i.e. 200+=Hyper, 300+=Giga, 400+=????) If there is a topic like this could you point to it before you close, Please.

200+ is also called Mega as by B&M. Along these lines, 400+=Tera.

id say in 6-7 years there will be a 400 ft coaster with not much more than a drop and a few turnarounds. i am saying this because it took ten years to go from 200 to 300 and magnum was the only 200 for a while where as we already have 2 300+. it wud cost a lot but i have a good feeling that there will be one by 08 or 09

Will you eat your hat if and when the Stratosphere coaster happens? ;)

What's this all about, I must of missed something there. I never heard of anything about the Stratosphere. Tell me more! :)

It's under Latest Rumors on the main page. So that you don't have to back track, here's the link; http://www.coasterbuzz.com/rumors/rumor.asp?NewsID=1411

If you would count this stratosphere thing as a 400 foot coaster when it's supports will likely never touch the ground than, Lets think the next barrier will be 500 foot or something
Jephry's avatar
I don't know about that rumor. I have thought about that too but I don't know if it will happen. Also a 400ft coaster will be done before 2010 trust me. a 400ft coaster, I think it would cool to call it an ultra coaster.

Why does it seem now that Hyper coaster doesn't fit. I mean you have Mega, Giga and maybe Tera. All of those go together

-------------
Best Coaster: Millennium Force
Worst Coaster: Project Stealth
The Stratospher coaster is rumored to be 700' also 1000' tall! Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Sorry, whaddya gonna call it? Yeah, Ultra Coaster will do.

Yeah, Hypers don't fit. But sound cool anyway. B&M call theirs Mega coasters. So where did Speed coasters come from?

10 to the power of 1 = 0+ = Deca (da) (Kiddie)
2 = 10+ =Hecto (h) (Junior)
3 = 100+ = Kilo (k) (Jr Hyper)
6 = 200+ = Mega (M) (Hyper) (1989)
9 = 300+ = Giga (G) (2000)
12 = 400+ = Tera (T) (2010)
15 = 500+ = Peta (P) (2020)
18 = 600+ = Exa (E) (2030)
21? = 700+ = Ultra (U) (2040 or 2002 :))
-18 = -600+ = Atto (a) (600+ Underground drop!)

No freaking way it'll be 10 years in between classes. A coaster with a 1000' drop could be easily built on suitable terrain i.e Grand Canyon! Or inbetween the World Trade Center Skyscrapers in NY! Or any other skyscrapers for that matter.

Bring on the Exacoasters & Ultracoasters!!! :):):) *** This post was edited by CoasterGod on 3/4/2001. ***
400 Feet max. Anything higher and we're looking at coasters that have to use a car the size of the Superman the Escape at SFMM, 20 Inch wheels and track with 10" diameter tubing.

Now there's something nobody brought up...

There already is a 400' tall coaster. Six Flags Magic Mountain's very own Superman: The Escape.

STE ain't a full-circuit coaster. Plus the cars don't go over 400'!!! Yeah, bigger wheels & rails needed. Why the heck can't Intamin make their own 400+' version of TA2K based on STE? Too expensive I guess, but possible.

LOL, yeah I will eat my hat if it don't happen. I'm a hypocrite. There's a very small chance it'll happen, but otherwise it won't & can't! See? Hypo, I can't help it! :)

well im saying that in 7-6 years their will one that isnt connected to anything like the strat tower and it has to be a full curcuit coaster like mf not like whats goin on the strat

Two things make me high: Coasters and music. Oh, and uh, alcohol. And food. And Alcohol.
Bryang, I get your drift... You should've been more specific & said a free standing coaster. Just pointing it out for you & no offense meant.

A Tera coaster would be horribly expensive unless it has a 60 deg lifthill & vertical drop like Vertical Coasters on RCT. MF's LH is 45 degs to save $$$. Isn't Oblivion 45 degs as well or steeper?
Megnetic LIM Lifts would be a must for anything going over 400' It's the only economical way to do it. Cables and chains are jsut too heavy.
Chains are definitely too heavy. Cables not so - MF. LIMs all the way up the hill would probably be heavier than chains. I dunno, anyone?

I have a plan for a 1300+' tall 200+mph coaster. It would use LSMs to blast the train horizontally to 200mph over approx 2000'? in 10 seconds then straight up like STE. It would have one huge tower frame with track straight up & down like TA2K.

The catch is the train STOPS at the top for 10 secs to scare the bejezus out of the riders & to admire the view before plunging down vertically & hitting 200mph again. At the top, it can make a right turn or a 180. Haven't figured the rest of the layout yet. ;)

No wheels, it would be magnetically levitated -MAGLEV. Such technology exists. It would still have wheels set a few inches off the track for emergencies. The train would have a windshield of course. The track would be a cross between B&M & Intamin - actually rectangular MAGLEV rails on Intamin style box spine. And about 10' wide for original TA2K(Stops) layout. Otherwise 16' for other layouts. You work out how many people fit in a train! :)

Now, this is all possible, I'm telling ya. Only problems is the public won't ride it, I will! Anyone? The cost,it would be about a billion dollars or so. Plus it would take years to design & solve problems involved & that alone will cost heaps.

My name for the coaster is SCREAM JET. Whaddya think?

Start saving up Buzzers & we'll all put in towards this Ultracoaster! *** This post was edited by CoasterGod on 3/4/2001. ***

A point can be argued for both sides, but you can't deny this simple fact:

Superman: The Escape is over 400' tall.

The second point isn't really valid, either, because on any given inverted coaster, the cars don't go higher than the track.

LOL! You know what I mean though. Good one, so how do they measure the height on Inverteds? Top of track or heartline?.
