Six Flags revenue and dividend up in third quarter

Six Flags said total guest spending per capita rose 6%, partly reflecting the price hikes implemented last spring. Attendance of 11.8 million guests edged up from a year earlier, while the Active Pass Base, which includes season pass holders and membership program guests, increased 10%.

No surprise on the increase in the active pass base given what they've been doing at SFOT in recent months. They started a pretty aggressive sale of season passes around Labor Day weekend, somewhere in the neighborhood of $35 for a gold pass that included parking and Hurricane Harbor and is good from the time of purchase through the end of 2015. I heard from several people that they were offering that same deal to all of their private buy out parties during September and October. They seem to have found a way to make giving away the gate lucrative again, but that seems kind of dangerous in the long term. They have to be realizing a lot more in park spending from families through these cheap pass programs than I think they would.

Our SFoT based family got 6 gold combo (SFOT/HH) passes for $55 around Labor Day. It was by far the cheapest we've ever seen them. Granted we have very little interest in Hurricane Harbor, but even for just SFoT passes, that's a really good deal. I think the sale is still in effect, even though the Labor Day sale said, "3 days only" or whatever.
