Six Flags Over Texas to add 325 foot S&S tower for 2003

Posted | Contributed by bigboy

Six Flags Over Texas is getting an addition to its skyline with a ride that will be taller than anything else in the park, though park officials won't say anything about it. S&S Power Inc. of Logan, Utah, is building what it calls a tower complex -- a ride expected to be more than 320 feet tall that will launch passengers up or down at speeds of at least 60 mph. The attraction is expected to cost at least $10 million.

While I find Intamin's drops to be much better, this is a nice addition. Those S&S towers do look nice. :)

Hey...SFOT has an Intamin drop ride, too!! ;)

...

So does this mean the Alaska S&S tower will be around 500' tall? ;)

No, can't build an S&S tower in Alaska, it'll get ice in the steel in the offseason and fall over ;)

Sorry, just had to make a jab ... the less S&S the better in my book ... but just my opinion

Supreme Scream goes up to about 252 (i forget whether its 254 or 252), the tower itself is about 312 feet, and the rest is the big triangular american flag. As is, Supreme Scream is also the tallest drop, just about 10 feet higher than power tower.

Enigma's Revenge" at Warner Bros. Madrid is 360 feet !!!

Sorry bud, but WBMW Madrid's Tower ride peaks out at 300' max, equivelant to Cedar Point's Power Tower. It is the tallest "Combo Ride" ride operation from S&S. The tallest is still the Knott's tower.

That is Knott's 325' S&S Turbo Drop. I'd love to see the SFoT top that! :) (We already know it exceeds SS in ride size, but not height, they wouldn't mention in the article).

Oh My Gosh,This is Awsome(for me anyway, I live near houston, but my cousins live in Arlington) Wouldn't it be an S&S-Arrow tower, though?

I like SF,other parks might be better. But is it really my fault I live in texas?

In that picture are the paths really that small? I mean how do big crowds get by? But the theming and that view looks hot.

jay-rider,

What picture are you talking about? The WBMW pic or the Knott's pic?

Antuan said "Actually jayrider, the gyro's are much more thrilling. Many can attest to that."

So dropping is more thrilling then dropping?

Yea, I'm wondering about that myself seeing as how S&S towers launch you down while Intamin Gyro's only drop you.

I just hope for the SFoT fans that they get "combo" towers like @ SFFT. Those are the best I've ridden so far. Even though I've noticed as Space Shots get taller, they get 'suckier'. But having both shot and drop more than makes up for it IMO.

Wow, I can't believe you're scared of drop rides! They just as good as coasters, IMO. SFNE also has a triple combo tower and it rocks.

My question is: What is the definition of a double shot? In other words, what is its ride sequence.

This past summer I rode my first S&S towers (Rocket at lagoon, Mailboomer, and Supreme Scream) they were all sweet. This should be no exeption.

A double shot uses the same acceleration going up and coming down so you are pulled up real fast AND shot down fast. (Reference below- Double Shot specs- S&S Power).

This ends today's lesson at the Stan Checkett's school of insanity Any questions?!?!?!

Kraxleridah I was talking about the WBMW's picture look how narrow the paths are and than there is fake cars in the street. How is it when it gets crowded??
I think the name for the new ride should be Superman: Krypton Tower. That would sound more better. *** This post was edited by jay_rider on 10/31/2002. ***

Here's an interesting quote though regarding this ride:

Allen [S&S employee] would not say how many towers the new ride at Six Flags Over Texas would have. "It's unlike anything we've done before," Allen said. "We're just tickled to death to be able to do this."

Now, they've already built large drop towers in the 300 ft range, and reasonably tall combo towers. For this to be "unlike anything we've done before", might there be something extra going on here? Tilt-seats perhaps?

Don't worry, all will be made clear soon...

Chris

Don't move the machine, it might "tilt" ;)
