Setpoint formally announces Swing Thing headed for northeast park

Posted | Contributed by Panicmaniac

As reported by CoasterBuzz in November, Setpoint, maker of the Super Saturator at Paramount's Carowinds, has formally announced that their next generation ride will appear at park in the northeastern portion of the US. The ride will be taller and longer and have 50% greater capacity than its cousin at Carowinds.

Read the press release on PR Newswire.

The actual release says "northeast" not New England. For a company located in Utah, northeast covers a lot of ground. In New Orleans, where I grew up, anything north of Richmond and east of Indiana could be called the northeast. I do think the ride would be a great fit for Hershey which should be due for a new coaster in 2002.
I hope it's Lake Compounce. It would give SFNE a reason to get a major coaster. I hope SFNE doesn't get it, they desperately need a major looper.
So you're saying you don't get soaked to the bone on modern shoot-the-chute rides and river rapids rides?

Well perhaps you get wet, but imagine jumping in a swimming pool. When you come off of the saturator its like that. That is why I either wear a bathing suit or a poncho. Once I wore street clothes. Never again... the misery... lol
Wow, I wonder how the park feels about that announcement. From what I have heard, they don't want to go public for another few months yet.
If you forget about the usual geographic locations of the various states, and their usual associations with where they are located - for example, California is considered a pacific state, Colorado is a Rocky Mountain state, Vermont is a New England state, and Michigan is a Great Lakes state, etc.....and then draw an imaginary rectangle through the US, centered half way between the oceans, and from Canada to Mexico, and simply focus on which part of the US those states are in, it is easier to identify which section of the country they are in. For example, to me, California is in the Southwestern US, Colorado is in the mid section, Vermont is in the northeast, and Michigan is even in the northeast.
With that in mind, if you live in Utah and are looking at a map of the whole country, it is easier to see how certain states that we don't consider to be in the northeast, are in fact part of the northeastern section of the country. To me, that would include Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and even Kentucky if you really look at it.
I am going to go out on a limb and speculate just like everyone else about where this new ride could be going. Since Carowinds is part of the Paramount family of parks, and that company tends to improve upon certain rides done at other Paramount parks, my humble guess is that the new coaster will be going to King's Island. I mean, think about it....supposedly (as rumored), PKI is not opening KCKC this season, and since it is located in the Rivertown section of the park, it just stands to reason that whatever might replace it would be another water themed ride.

That was hilarious, Vollyguy!
What is a swing thing what type of ride is it
My guess is that it'll be at Hershey...their due for a new coaster and don't have a separate water park. I think it would be an awesome addition!
I think this coaster would fit in perfectly with the family atomsphere at Lake Compounce. I know the park has plans for expansion in the southern end of the park near Thunder River. These two water rides would compliment each other greatly.
I think PKI is the last place this coaster would go. They are opening up a new family inverted coaster this year, why build another that has water shooting up under it?
I'll guess we'll have to wait and see! Sounds awesome.

Life is the ultimate roller coaster
I think it's for Lake Compounce. They WERE due for a small imverted and would go great with the family atmosphere. I would rather new england offer a thrill park and a family park. Not 2 of each kind. In other words, I would rather SFNE get a B&M or Dutchman and see the Lake get that Setpoint.
Why NOT King's Island? They already had The Beast, but built SOB. Why did CP build MF, when it already had Magnum? I could go on.
I don't think it matters whether or not they are finishing up a family inverted (more for kids, not adults) - the proposed new Swing Thing coaster is slated to be taller and longer, and would be a perfect fit for the space where KCKC is now. It would be more of an adult sized coaster.
If you ask me, the northeastern region of the United States (theme park wise) encompasses everything north of Six Flags Great Adventure. Once you get too much farther south than that, it ceases to be 'north.'

As for this ride, I agree with SROS221. It would be a perfect fit for Lake Compounce. SFNE's crowds need bigger coasters to eat up lines. The park's expansions this year are 100% family oriented, so the way I see it, next year should focus on thrill rides. A CCI woodie or a B&M looper would be nice.
From someone who lives there and has actually checked into such things, the Northeast would be comprised of PA, NY, NJ, CT, MA, NH, VT, RI and ME.

The nearer states to the south such as MD, DE and VA are generally referred to as Mid-Altlantic. Sometimes PA and NJ are considered Mid-Atlantic too, depends who you talk to. Ohio, even though I do not really agree, is usualy considered part of the Midwest.

Hope that helps.
