RCT 2... Better than RCT 3? New rides, coaster styles, etc for RCT2?

I know it's been discued here before, but is it just me or does RCT 3 really suck as fare as "Gameplay" goes? Yes it's cool as fare as riding your own coaster, having realistic looking flat rides, etc... but couldn't all of this be done in RCT2? without switching to the new 3d engine?

I have a $1,500 computer and I can barely build a theme park in RCT3 before it starts moving to slow to even stand it. RCT2 I could build a HUGE theme park with hundreds of rides and thousands of peeps and it still had upwards of 40-50fps.

I would really love to see RCT2 gameplay engine with some new, more realistic looking flat rides and coaster designs in RCT3.

I know there are a few custom rides sitting around of RCT2, but does anyone know if realistic looking, custom made rides like "Giant Swing" "Giant Ferris wheel" ect has ever been made for RCT2?

If not, how hard is it to design a ride of RCt2? I know how to do the design stuff, im just not sure about programming and that type of stuff.

Thanks guys and gals!

Its not easy. You basically are reusind a current ride for the game but creating new graphics. You are still bound by the rules of the original ride. That's why as good as the swings ride is by The Amazing Earl it still won't act like a waveswinger ride.
I just thought of a problem I've been having with RCT2. Whenever I build the standard Ferris Wheel, all goes well while the ride fills up with riders and the ride proceeds. But when the ride is done, the riders do not leave the ride. The line stays filled, all of the seats are filled, yet no one leaves the ride. Why can't the people get off of the ride?
^Is this in RCT2 or RCT3?

I know that in RCT3 if you have the wild expansion guests won't exit from vertical rides such as the roto-drop or S&S towers.I havn't played RCT3 in months simply because the game no longer works on my system due to corrupted files & a faulty uninstall program built into the expansions so now I just play RCT2.

I've been working on a new RCT2 park for a few weeks now but,as usual get a bad case of builder's block & can't come up with any ideas for the right handside of the park but the main midway & left side are almost completed....I'm thinking of putting in a giga coaster but IIRC the game crashes when you use that track style,or is it just when you use the cable lift?

I am an avid lover of RCT2 and I agree with you....the game could be updated a lot to be great. Unfortunately we are bound by the limits coded into the game. For example...the scenery limit...also with regards to flat rides, the max size is 4x4 I believe. So no working flat ride can be bigger than that.

There have been some new coaster trains released that are good...the problem is, if people want to do their own custom ones they never turn out as best possible because we have to generate the images for every view from a 3D model. Once that is done the train doesn't really look very "RCTish" and then it has to be all aligned up correctly in a pos.txt file and the slightest error results in the train not looking right in a certain view on certain elements of track.

I actually love making objects for RCT2 and have done a custom flat ride and plan to do a few more:

It doesn't work of course, but it sure does look good.

Basically, if the source code was released, we'd be gold.

On the topic of the ferris wheel, he is talking about RCT2...it is a bug in the game I believe. It has to do with if the ferris wheel rotates forwards or backwards...try switching it and the people should get off.

^Thanks, I'll try that.
Has any one played RCT3 Platinum is looks ok.

RCT3 in general is fairly bad when you get more than 300 guests in your park.

I'll wait for RCT4! RCT4 with yet more options, ultimately making the framerate plummet into the newly deepened abyss! Greater Options, More Lag, who could ask for more????

^Do you all think there will be a RCT4? If so, is there a suggestion site that we (the ones who actually care ;)) could go to and request the format of RCT2 with more rides and coaster types?
I have RCT3 Platinum and it does play just a little better than when RCT3 first came out but it still lags after awhile. I keep my parks down to a mid-sized range and don't go rampant on adding the extra theming, i.e. custom buildings with all the walls the game provides, to keep the game running okay.

I still play RCT2 much, much more as I like the graphics and sounds better. If there ever is an RCT4 I would like to see them go back to the game engine of RCT2 but expand the limits the game has to include all the cool flat rides and new coaster types from RCT3. I could care less if I can ride the rides or not.

X Factor

I enjoy every game in the RCT series but I love RCT3. I do not have a super computer but it does well in running the game, and the game to me is a lot more fun because you are not as limited in roller coaster design and I really like the new 3d way of wiewing things. The guests in the park are not as stupid, and plus I really enjoy the soaked expansion pack. Not to mention you can upload all of your old coaster from rct2 into the game which is GREAT! I think people are too critical of the game, it is a game not a simulator.

Trust me, if you get a new computer with a decent video card, there is no lag, and RCT3 (with expansions) becomes one of the greatest games ever. It's not the creators fault if your system can't handle more than 300 people in the park. That being said, they didn;t do a good job of accomodating lower-end systems. The game (IMO) should have included more options to lower the requirements.

However, with a new system, one can build endliessly like in RCT2...and it is truly awesome.

Jubilee, how do you load your RCT2 creations onto RCT3?

OSer, my lap top is new but after adding themeing to more than 2 coasters the game lags, so apperently, you have the ULTIMATE system. But I have both expansion packs, so does that make a difference? Plus, hopefully nobody would go buy a new computer just because they want to play RCT3 without lag ;).

Also on RCT4 I do want the graphic styles of RCT2 but I don't want guests to say "I'm not paying that much to ride _____!" Which causes you to lower the ride prices (constantly) after a ride/coaster gets so old. It is a waste of time! *** Edited 4/11/2007 2:10:34 AM UTC by DantheCoasterman***

I have a pretty ultimate system but my one major park will drag when its open and I get too many guests.

That's bad enough but the real problem is that it will lock up and "RCT has stopped working. Windows will close the program and search for a solution" appears on my screen. Then I get the biggest "no duh!" response. "RCT 3 has stopped working because of a problem." appears next.

RCT4-never gonna happen- I'd also like a return to rct2 style but leave out the useless Wacky Worlds/Time Twister scenery. include the rct3 rides and new track pieces and have the ability ride your creations in a separate setting like ride designer

RCT3 still has more bugs other than performance. The on-ride views are very rough and many things in the game feel very rough. RCT2 didn't have many rough spots.
So, how hard is it to create flat rides and rollercoaster types in RCT3? Are we still just "Editing" a current ride or can we actually design, build and program a few ride from the ground up with its own controls?

Thanks,

Landon

When RCT3 came out, I ended up buying a new system that was way beyond the mininum specs in all categories.
I installed RCT3 and it was a lag kingdom after a certain point.
About a week after i installed it, I went back to circuit city, where i got the computer and game and complained.

Circuit city: We're sorry for the trouble, but can we show you something?

They had me go their best, top spec system and load RCT3. After loading, and about 30 mins of play, that thing lagged as bad as mine.

That's when they said the complaints they've recieved about the game have been incredible and caused them to show people that it's not always their systems. They even went so far as to say that the minimum system spec requirements for the game are way off and that they would never work. That's when they offered me a refund on the game.

The Walmarts by me, and there are 6-7 of them, had so many complaints that they never even sold the Wild at their stores.

You load your other rct roller coaster creations into the game by clicking on a folder that has all of your roller coasters in it already. The game does this for you when it installs. You really don't have to do anything except select which coaster you want to place into the game, pretty simple. I also have both expansion packs and it works great, and no I do not have a super computer, my mom bought me a lab top at Best Buy for college and it runs RCT3 well. That is the only game I play though.
RCT4 should have the RCT2 game play with more flats and coasters, better looking stalls and add games that guest can play. ( also on ride view, and guest view ) !
