Rattler finally opens at Cliff's

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Following a delay in shipment of steel and the bankruptcy of CCI, Cliff's Amusement Park finally opened Rattler this weekend. Ground was originally broken for the ride in February.

I have to wonder if the delayed steel shipment wasn't due to CCI's financial problems. I hope the design team did as good a job on this one as the did on Cornball in similar conditions.
Wow, I'm really surprised they decided to open it with only two weekends left in the year. Might as well jut wait until next year...

Well I guess I understand why the name was so creative (sarcasm) a four-year-old thought it up. Anyway, I guess the consider it to be similar to Hoosier Hurricane or Cornball Express with it's conformed layout and the way it goes over the entire park. Sounds like a good ride...now SOMEBODY GO AND GET PICS!!! ;)

PICS would be great, but I really want some Lobo (or Aggie) to go get us a RIDE REVIEW. Sounds like a good one, but it IS "off the beaten path", so to speak...
I'm going to New Mexico now (shouldn't be too hard, I'm in Tucson). My ACE rep said it would open later this month and, hey, he was right. I just gotta get a group of friends together and prove to my one stubborn friend that even though a woodie is only 100 feet tall, CCI can make it pack a punch!

It's too sad that your "doubting thomas" friend doesn't believe a cci under 100 ft. is any good. Hasn't he heard of the raven?

I think the name is pretty cool actually. And I am glad they finally got it opening, but it is kinda strange they opened it now. If they did it next year they could have a great opening weekend.

She's pretty doubtful, even after she read my reviews of Legend and Raven. But I am trying my hardest to convince her that CCI can work wonders with wood. Hey, I was the same way until I rode Raven. I thought it would be nothing because it was so small and short. Lo and behold, I got my backseat ride and learned the true definition of ejector air. She'll just have to ride NM Rattler with me.

Actually, it's smart to open it now. See, the few people that get to ride it will be able to go out, tell their friends, their friends tell their friends, etc, etc, and so on. Word spreads, opening day, tons of business.

I am so glad to hear that another small park opens a wooden coaster. It will be interesting to hear reviews of the ride as I heard the 1st drop is similar to CornBall's. I was also wondering if the PTC train had individual bars or standard buzz bars. And who is...

"project supervisor Dudley Hazelwood, who designed a coaster similar to the Rattler in Indiana."

Is this a former CCI employee?

I really glad they finally got it open. To bad for all the delays though. Maybe I'll ride it someday since my grandpa lives sort of close.

Why isn't this park opened year round in a warm climate like New Mexico? I rode Desparado (which is in Vegas) during January! And that is just as far north!

New Mexico gets pretty darn cold in the winter. It snows there, ya know? Vegas is also lower in elevation than a lot of New Mexico so there's going to be a temperature difference there.

Thue enough about Despy...my friend rode it in the SNOW! But a coaster that leaves the hotel for the station is a little different than keeping a PARK open year-round...;). Interestingly, WA is year-round (weekends only), but three hours' north, SFoG closes EARLY for the year...
