Problems logging in?

Since the latest migration (?), this site has logged me out on my iOS device, but not on my desktop. Using Safari on iOS I am apparently not able to log in. If I present an incorrect password, I get an error message indicating a bad password. But if I supply the correct password, I get redirected to the site home page...and I am still logged out. Now to test this on the desktop...opened the forum home page in a private window, entered email and password, and...logged in and back to the forum home page.

So...don't know if it's me or the site...iOS 13.6 running on an iPhone SE.

I had the same issue recently and Jeff suggested that I clear my cookies. After clearing everything I was able to log back in and stay logged in.

I couldn't get through on any device (about 3 laptops) so had to clear them on all 3 devices to get logged back in on that device.

Gonch had an issue as well last night. I'm trying to think of a situation where this would go wrong. I'd have to see the request headers for a page request after you login but it doesn't appear to work.

I even had to clear the cookie on my phone to get the login to work there.

Weird. I didn't even have to login again when I deployed. The big change is that the site is running on a Linux server instead of Windows. It still uses the same key though to encrypt the cookie.

Has anyone encountered the problem on something not Chrome? Gonch I assume you're Chrome on Android.

Yeah, Chrome in both cases.

I bet if you had a pocket knife you could fix the problem!

So a moment ago I opened the site on my phone...and I am already logged in. No cookie manipulation or anything. Last night I couldn’t log in at all, today I didn’t have to.

It’s kind of weird because normally when there’s a site migration I have to log back in, but this time it was only on mobile Safari. Anyway it’s obviously fixed for me now!

Has anyone noticed the time stamp is now in Military time?

I did. Dates are also 25 August, 2020. Apparently there are some variations in how .NET Core formats dates on Linux compared to Windows, but not every time. I'm not sure why yet. PointBuzz forums is running on Linux as well, but they're appearing as expected.

Boom. I figured it out. The forums require a configuration call that sets the available cultures (you can see the forum UI in Spanish, Ukranian, Dutch, German and Taiwanese Mandarin if you change your browser settings), and I didn't do that on CB.

Just got logged out of my desktop. Cleared cookies and was able to log back in. Is it something random that takes people out?

I honestly don't know. I can't reproduce it myself.

I guess unsurprisingly, the problem was environmental. What you guys might have seen is some shifting between HTTP and HTTPS, because I didn't have the switch set to force it into the secure mode. If a cookie is set securely and you end up on the non-secure side, it will basically be filtered out. I'm curious to know if any of you have the site bookmarked to a URL that starts with "http" and not "https." You've all been around long enough to set a bookmark back when that was a thing.
