Parkitect early build available

So the full park build is complete. I went overboard, as usual. The save game has 2100 guests, there's a park map and a 30 minute long promotional video (in addition to the 19 build videos).

Nice Gonch. I am going buy the game as well. I am playing RCT2, but want the more modern game. Looks good.

Overachiever. So are the crappy framerates just because the game can't handle all that stuff with the mods putting the camera in random places? How old is your video card?

It seems like the swing action in the suspended coaster is too much. In real life they don't bounce around that much through a turn.

I'm running on a fairly new PC with a "I don't play many games" video card.

i7-4790k @4Ghz
16MB RAM
Radeon R9 270 @ 925Mhz 2GB

The game with a map filled with all the goodies and 2100 peeps, running the standard camera (as the game was meant to be played), drops to about 15fps when fully zoomed out.

With the mod camera in use, screen recording software running in the background and trying to fly around the map like that it dropped to about 5fps in the worst cases where there's lots of animation and you're looking the long way across the park.

16MB RAM?

What is this? 1995?

Heh. I'm not fixing it now.

I run the dev VM on my laptop with 4. That's usually enough with an SSD. My desktop, however, has 24 gigs, but I bought almost everything at the top in December.

What I find interesting about the game is that the developers are using Unity, which seems to be something of a mixed blessing for the game development world. It gives you a lot of shortcuts, and can be almost everything to everyone, but that general use does come at a cost of optimization for your specific use case. If I had an idea for a 2-D game I would consider trying it out, but all of the good ideas have been done a hundred times.

All the good ideas have been done a hundred times? It didn't stop these guys from making Parkitect.

Which part of this game is 2-D?

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

I didn't say it was. My point is old ideas get remade again and again.

And my point was:

If I had an idea for a 2-D game I would consider trying it out, but all of the good ideas have been done a hundred times.

...to which you responded that it didn't stop them from doing Parkitect, a 3-D game.

I think he was focused on the latter half of things being done a hundred times. Which didn't stop them from making another similar game. So 2D or 3D, even if it's been done before doesn't mean it can't be done successfully again.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Maybe I'm not being clear... I have no interest in doing that.

I agree with everyone. ;-)

Been a while.

Here's a little family/kiddie coaster I put together real quick for this month's build-off.

Been a while some more. Got kind of burned out with Parkitect and progress on the game, while steady, is pretty slow.

Spent the fall and early winter with Civ VI. Came back after the holidays and took a look at Planet Coaster.

Here we are in mid-February:

I look at that after a few weeks of Planet Coaster and think, yikes, I'll probably never run Parkitect again. It looks ancient and outdated.

Yeah, but it's actually enjoyable to play.

I've tried a couple of times, but I'm not feeling it. Yeah, the whole not building backward thing is a drag, but even the UI by comparison is cumbersome. As someone who likes to build pretty things, it's surprising that you don't care for PC.

Yeah, I know. But it's the process. It's not fun. It feels like work. It's tedious and complicated. Flexible as all hell, but tedious and complicated. I don't have the patience for it. I'm looking for a diversion, not a full time job (both in time and skills needed).

And I know it's not just me because all these insane creations people make take 40, 50 or 100 hours...for one building or ride or whatever. It's too slow and plodding...tedious. Complicated. It was a chore to use. It was work. (See the theme, here?)

Plus, I prefer there still be some game about. Parkitect is moving slow, but they have the game in mind. Planet Coaster is a construction tool more than anything. I'm very impressed by the stuff people make and what it can do, but I don't enjoy the process at all. In this case, I guess it's more than the end result. I find the journey in Parkitect more satisfying as it's simple and quick moving and enjoyable. Planet Coaster felt like work.

Can you tell it felt like work? I don't work.
