Nitro got a lot of hype due to its late announcement. It got really interesting, especially during that period we could see a huge tower piercing the Jersey sky, but no one knew how tall it would end up. Like
Matchbox 32 said, everyone wanted to know how tall, long, steep, etc.
Still, though, X has gotten its fair share of publicity. In my opinion, it's one of the most revolutionary ride ideas to come down the pike in quite some time.
Though it hasn't been talked about
as much, the Phantom's Revenge situation has been surrounded by a lot of hoopla. If we add in all the rumors, speculation, guessing, and debate that lasted from March 'til the end of summer over what exactly was going to replace Steel Phantom, though, I think PR is right up there with X and Nitro.
Most of all, though, I'd say Disney's California Adventure has been the most talked about new-for-2001 attraction. Sure, it
is a whole park, but still... that's the kind of publicity only Disney can generate.
We seem to have forgotten about the coasters announced early in the off-season, such as Talon and Hypersonic XLC. These are going to be two big-name rides in '01, and come opening day, I'm sure we'll hear quite a bit about them.
