Are the monetary values in the game based on any real currency? It couldn't be dollars, but maybe pounds? It dosen't seem that any type of money could buy a lamp post for four dollars. But then again, is it just made up?

You can make it what ever currency you want in options menu. If you have it on dollars, it is. The game just isn't quite real enough for that. It needs a couple more zeros! I mean when did 2 benches cost 5 bucks>?
yeah really i mean when does a major roller coaster cost just 10k and when are handymen's salaries $35 a month.
Just think with starting out with $10,000 you wouldn't get many rides or benches if it was real currency.
