Locals don't want tall ride at Fantasy Island

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

People living near the Fantasy Island theme park are angry at plans to build a new 200 feet high ride. East Lindsey District Council has granted planning permission for the attraction at the park near Ingoldmells (UK).

So it's 200ft instead of 400ft now?

While I can understand the locals in Alton Tower I don't have any empathy for the Skeggness locals.

Eyesore,,,there's a difference between Alton Towers and Fantasy Island. Alton Tower is surrounded by beautiful landscape. Fantasy Island is surrounded by this: http://www.coasterclub.org/photos/trp-fi2002/img_55.shtml caravans/trailers. The ride would rather blend in ;) (the best pic I could find for now, I know there's better)

It's an S&S Sky Sling.

The owners say the new ride, called Absolutely Insane, will help the local economy.

Sounds like an S&S ride...

They said 400ft, now it's 200ft, but before it was 500ft. How can we trust these people??!?!?!?

The S&S Absolutlely Insane/SkySling ride has never been any taller than 279 feet.

Even the new version only obtains that height..

LOL! I totally agree that the views from FI rides aren't particularly panoramic for the non-caravanner! I also dont understand why locals object to this attraction when there are 4 very tall rides at the park already. The area around the park is very flat and the rides can be seen for miles around, a few feet on top of whats already there will hardly make any difference, I suspect there's an amount of bandwagonning here.

Rob: The towers didn't go over that height, but I believe that the ride vehicle itself did.

Looks like someone in that red car was having fun...

Trust me I know it went higher than 279 feet.

I test ride VertiGo when it was put in at CP. I was the first person to ride it after Stan by invitation of Dick Kinzel (CF CEO). Rode it 82 times before the season was over and it fell.

You actually obtained a max height of about 305 feet depending on the load on the vehicle.

Are you allowed to just wear no shoes on a roller coaster( look olov's link).
