Knott's completes Xcelerator's circuit

Posted | Contributed by Karl DeAngelo

Knott's has completed the circuit for their third major full circuit coaster, Xcelerator. With only a month to go before the planned opening Knott's must continue at the furious pace to finish the rest of the attraction.

Visit Twisted Rails and ACN for the photos.

Wow, I cant wait to get to Cali.

Hey, you forgot www.westcoaster.net

Marvellous, absolutely marvellous. Although I'm still a bit concerned of a S:ROS incident on a grand scale.

Are you referring to an accident of the SFNE variety or the SFDL variety? Or both? Either way, I see your point.

It's like a big pretzel.
The ride looks awesome, but I agree with you Taipan, that brake run scares me a little.

Yeah the brake run is a little iffy. But I'd be less worried about a train crash, and more worried about hitting that unbanked turn into the station at 60mph.

Still, such events are HIGHLY unlikely and given what happened last year, I'm sure it's been taken into consideration. :)

Hopefully it's a buttery smooth brake run, not unlike S:TE, which brilliantly slows and stops the train, which happens to hit the brakes at about 90mph.

I don't think there should be any worry about the main brake run, in reference to the S:ROS accident. There's nothing movable on the run, everything (the fins and the mags on the train) are fixed. No way to screw it up. Rather, the brakes on the launch have the actuators on them to push them up and down and are the bigger worry in my mind (if at all).

Taipan, Westcoaster was "forgotten" because we didn't submit this as a news item since our normal "update" day is Saturday. No worries.

Looks like they have quite a bit to do on the station yet. It looks like they have only finished the foundation there.

I think Knott's could get away with claiming that Xcelerator has 2 inclined loops!
Things I'd like to see in the next generation(s) of this ride:

- An Inverted version, in other words, a V2-Xcelerator hybrid.

- Some bunny hops or additional hills (more airtime). Overbanked turns are cool, but alone do not a coaster make (Don't get me wrong, it still looks great).

Yeah it will be nice to see what a park with a much larger construction area can do with this ride. Imagine a launched version of Millennium Force! :)

What's YOUR favorite Intamin?

Exscuse my coaster ignorance, but is the first element of Xcelerator a top hat or is it something different. Whatever the name, it looks amazing. Does anyone know the estimated speed of the train as it hits the top of that element?

It's an inverted tophat, sort of (but not an inverted train). The tophat element on Mr. Freeze, the train rides inside the curve (upside down). On Xcelerator, the train rides on the outside, like Hypersonic XLC.

Hopefully, the trains won't be going too fast at the top, or they'll fly off!

That thing looks stupid.
Well that's your opinion phantoms_revenge_rules. Personally, I can't wait til my next trip out west!!

Um.. Not... And since when is Phatoms Revenge such a great ride.
I'm glad we got passes this year! This one looks good, and it will draw some of the crowds away from Ghost Rider! It's a win-win situation!!!!
