Kennywood closing its log jammer they better be up to something

I get it Arrow went under 15 years ago. Hopefully the about year old rumors of an RMC coaster are coming true. Otherwise, sigh the rate of new things at the park have been very slow compared to what I grew up with. Kind of surprised on the lack of notice though.

That is the long- rumored location of the new RMC, isn't it?

Progress destroys another classic log flume.

Kennywood fans yesterday: "The park never builds anything new anymore!"

Kennywood fans today: "Nooooo don't take away an old ride to build a new ride!"

It's a landlocked park. Get over it. Honestly, while unique, people are letting their sense of nostalgia cloud the fact that it's not even that great of an example of a flume. It's short and the boats bang around like nothing else after the spillway.

^It was one of the best flumes i've ridden. I'm glad i got to ride it one last time when i was there in june. From rumors i heard an rmc woodie will be built in its spot.

I don't care if it's not the greatest log flume ever made. It's a log flume. I love log flumes, and they're becoming extinct.

Sure, new coasters are nice. Every year I cringe expecting news of another log flume being demolished.

Oh well. New coasters sell admission tickets.

It's a landlocked park...

And I oft hear how older flumes are a maintenance nightmare after a while.

I know someone at a certain Cedar Fair park hinted that the company may be interested in adding new flumes to parks, esp. those that no longer have one, in the near to long term future. I hope that's the case. I'd love for CP, CGA, and Carowinds to get new flumes.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

There was a planning meeting back in 2016 where Kennywood submitted these plans...

Not my work, but someone put together the layout over Google Earth...

If that's still the plan, it's not going in the place of Log Jammer, but I'm sure they will need the room for queues and paths. From what I understand, this area of the park is decent sized valley, so this should be a very exciting ride!

But still... its a sad day when another log flume disappears.

It closed to make way for a new picnic pavilion and Camp Snoopy.

Surprised to hear this because it is still a very popular ride. Maybe maintenance is a real issue. As far as needing the space, Kennywood purchased a large area next to the park several years ago. This is the area shown on the aerial photo where the new coaster is supposed to go, so they should not really need to remove the log jammer to expand the park or put in new rides.

The Trippin' Dots guy said "yes, RMC and MDA coming in 2019."

I honestly have no memory of Log Jammer. Which means either it's forgettable or I didn't ride it.

I'm heartbroken about this.

What is memorable about it for me was after the first drop there was an uphill section that rode like a coaster, but on the flume (unlike WDW's Splash Mountain, which has a drop that then goes uphill but actually rides on a coaster style track)

Recently, seems like a monthly announcement... :-/

It seems like it's been years since I heard the rumor about this new coaster. I almost stopped believing it to be true. I thought it was all contingent on some kind of road project that would make access to the park easier. I haven't read about the outcome of those plans though.

KW's bought a lot of land "for future development." The old Kennywood Plaza where the KMart used to be. There are several properties they've purchased behind the Exterminator, but supposedly one or two held out selling. The valley behind Racer and Log Jammer was the most recent purchase, I think.

But, nothing's come out of any of this, except parking lots. The KMart was supposed to be a year-round hotel with an indoor water park. The space behind Exterminator was supposed to be a Lost Kennywood expansion. And now this.

If you remember a few years ago, KW management said they would table any major expansion plans until the Mon-Fayette Expressway was built. Well, now that the Turnpike Authority has killed the extension that would have transversed right by KW's front door, I wonder if that's still the case.

I think the speculation up the thread is correct. Expect some flats and picnic shacks, maybe a resurrected Turnpike (I heard the cars and track are in storage).
