Kennywood 5-29-01

Got to the park at 11:00, just as Kennywood just opened. Everything ws just as I remembered it. Well here's my ratings of the rides that I rode:
Rating:Stars

Phantom's Revenge - *****
Amazing ride. This ride is definatly better (in my opinion) then the Steel Phantom. It is smooth, fast, and out of control. The turn around is so cool. And all of those G's after the second drop, WOW. An awesome ride. Definetly a top 5 ride.

Thunderbolt - ?
Broken down the whole day.

Racer - **
An okay novice type of ride. The Racer is still thrilling. Even though it's an old ride. But this ride was proboly the biggest ride back when it first opened.

Jack Rabbit - ***
The double-dip is amazing. Buckle your seat belts on the last rung and you will fly. But you have to hold up your hands.

Aero 360 - *****
The best flat ride. This ride is just amazing. If you've never ridden it, it will floor you. An awesome ride. A tip is to ride this ride at night because the lines aren't that long.

Magic Carpet - ***
This ride is a ride that's not bad but not good.

Enterprise - ****
Just like to go upside down on it. A ton og G's on this.

Spider - ****
This ride got it' cars painted blut from red. It's a fun ride to catch your breath on.

Pirate Ship - **
BORING. After riding the Aero 360 and the Enterprise, this was nothing.

Whipe Out - ****
A tip for this ride is to go in first. This way you crush the percon next to you.

Exterminator - ?
A 2 hour and 30 minute wait for this ride. Just passed it by.

Kennywood was crowded because it was Norwin's school picnic. And it rained. I would have ridden a lot more but. I guress I'll just have to wait.

Thunderbolt hasn't been open all season, as it got ripped to shreds for Phantom's Revenge construction. No word from the park as to when it'll re-open, so we're all just keeping our fingers crossed.

Sucks about the weather and the school deal, but it sounds like you enjoyed yourself nonetheless. Glad you had a good time at my home park!

Kenywood also does not have a "Spider". They had a Monster many years ago, and a 16-tub ocotpus, but never a spider. The ride that got its tubs painted is the Swing Around. Built by HUSS of Germany, the Swing Around has been popular in Kennywood sine the 80's.

I also found the Areo 360 quite a dull ride, but I dislike the Far Fabbri Bonzi and the ARM Skyfighter more so than the Zamperla Hawk (which A360 is)
Sorry about the Spider thing. I just forgot the name of the ride.
You'd be amazed how many people actually do call it the "Spider." It ain't right, but they do. ;)

You'd also be amazed how many people call the Flying Carpet the Magic Carpet. (BTW, Raptorfan, this isn't drected as a flame at you.)

Seriously, though, people will stand there under the big flashing FC sign and ask "when's the magic carpet gonna reopen?" Even employees do it. I wonder if there is another similar ride called the Magic Carpet, or is it just because it's a more familiar expression?

Could you describe the ruckus?
I call it the Magic Carpet, but I try my best to catch myself when I'm doing it. I do think it's because it's a more familiar expression. Plus, it sounds cooler. ;)

And might I add that's one bright sign! It lights up the whole side of the park at night.

I recently called Kennywood's info line and an operator told me the Thunderbolt would open again in July sometime. I have no idea how accurate that is though. BTW, I totally agree with you on the Phantom's Revenge: It is improved greatly over the Steel Phantom, and is is truly a great ride.
I bet the T-Bolt doesn't open all season. Would it be worth it to open for two months, and then pack the trains away again for another offseason?
Yes. Thunderbolt, along with Phantom's Revenge, is one of the park's two biggest draws. It takes a lot of heat from outsiders for being overrated, but Pittsburghers love the thing. Personally, I'd be surprised if it didn't open all season.
