IAAPA 2006: IAAPA gives awards for HR programs

The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) announced the winners for the 2006 Spirit of Excellence Awards at the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2006 annual conference and tradeshow.

The Spirit of Excellence Awards honor IAAPA member facilities that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to human resources (HR) training and professional programs that attract, motivate and retain talented people while advancing industry employment standards.

2006 recipients of the Spirit of Excellence Awards were recognized for exceptional HR programs that have raised the quality of guest service, safety, and supervisory training to a new threshold. This year’s honorees were divided into six categories. The winners are as follows:

Best Guest Relations Program
Winner – LEGOLAND California (Carlsbad, Calif.)
Runner Up – Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (Cleveland, Ohio)

Best Orientation Program
Winner – Playland Park (Rye, N.Y.)
Runner Up – Morey’s Piers (Wildwood, N.J.)

Best Employee Recognition Program
Winner – CN Tower (Toronto, Alb., Canada)
Runner Up – Dollywood (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.)

Best Safety Awareness Program
Winner – CN Tower (Toronto, Alb., Canada)
Runner Up – Warner Village Theme Parks (Gold Coast, Australia)

Best Supervisory Training Program
Winner - Kongeparken (Aalgard, Norway)
Runner Up – Playland Park (Rye, N.Y.)

Congratulations to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I'm glad to see it gets recognition as it is an excellent zoo, and a fun and enjoyable place to spend the day.
