Day in Pictures Tooltip Suggestion

Would it be possible (and worthwhile) to have a tooltip (displaying the creator's caption) pop up when hovering over thumbnail images?

Where?

In the Day in Pictures galleries, like here. When hovering over an image, have a tooltip caption pop up, if a caption exists for that image. Sometimes I want to know what a picture is focusing on without actually looking at it.

Of course, I may be the only one lazy enough to want something like that... :)

Oh, I see what you mean. Actually, I thought a lot about that, but after trying it decided I didn't like it because it interfered with the image acting as a big target for "next image." I'm not sure how many people realize that clicking on the image advances to the next, but that's how I use it.

Yeah, but he's asking about doing it on the thumbs.

I have to say, I've wished the photo caption was there at times myself.

Oh... yeah, that didn't register. I think that may be doable, and I'm sure I'm already getting that data from the database anyway. Lemme look into it.

OK, so as it turns out, it's harder than I thought and would require changing a lot of moving parts (a side effect of trying to make the forum "pluggable"). I'll put it on the backlog and try to get it in with other new stuff.

If you are using Firefox, you can download the CoolPreviews add on. It doesn't do exactly what you are describing, but it's better than nothing at all. I use it sometimes, and it is really nice.

It looks like it is also available for IE and Safari also.

Cool. Appreciate the feedback feedback. :)

LK - Thanks for the link, but I use Chrome.

Well shucks. You're welcome anyways.

I just did some digging, and it seems that there is something like CoolPreviews for Chrome called ezLinkPreview. I don't know anything about it, and it doesn't look like very many people use it, so be careful if you decide to check it out.

Thanks again. I'll give it a try!
