Alton Towers fire destroys part of Skyride station

A fire Sunday night at Alton Towers broke out in the Skyride station. The fire destroyed part of the cable car station's roof and the ride is expected to remain closed for the rest of the season which ends on 11 November.

The weird thing about that park is they have NO midway lighting because they're only open at night a couple times a year. So, they bring in all these temporary lights like you'd see on highway construction when they are open at night. It's actually quite weird. Apparently one of these lights fell over and started the fire.

I read it was started by a halogen light, I didn't know it was one of those.

It's a great method of transport for the park. The views are simply stunning. I just wish they had it open abit more than they do these days. Ah well.

Lets hope it's running in 2008!
