# of Posts

I was thinking something that would be neat is to have some sort of symbol or word that tells at least how many posts a person has posted without looking at a seperate window. For example have like "junior coaster" for people that have posted between 0 and 99 posts. hyper coaster for people with between 100, and 999 and giga coaster for anyone above 1,000. Theis symbol could appear next to their name
That's a cute idea, I like it! :)

We've gone over this idea a little bit before. Personally, I like the simplicity of POP Forums. Since I frequent a few other boards, it's refreshing to not see all that other junk. ;)

Also, we'd probably have a lot more "me too" posts. People would just throw some nonsense on the boards just to drive their count up in an effort to be come a giga coaster.

This has been discussed before. Based on past answers, its not going to happen.

It's like handing someone a trophy for making the most noise! Who cares!!!!

Or maybe like saying, "Thank you for enjoying my site, using it and looking at the advertisements that I get paid for."

Maybe it's more like that Neil, but I can see your point Neil.

Please... don't even go there. If you think I'm getting rich off this site, you live in a dream world. I took and $8,000 LOSS last year for this site and GTTP. And quite frankly, I won't get more high-paying ads if people don't click on them from time to time (in particular a campaign from a certain large park).

Jeff - do you get paid simply if we click on the ads, or do we have to do more with the site(s) in question for you to have it count? And about how many ad banners are clicked each day, if you know (and don't mind sharing :))?

All of the top banners are sold on a cost per thousand (CPM) basis, meaning I get paid for every time you see a banner. The general run-of-network stuff usually gets me around a dollar CPM. Not very good.

However, targeted campaigns, that is, campaigns geared toward enthusiasts, pay a lot more. I mean a lot more. (I think you can figure out which current campaign is targeted to you.) Those campaigns also pay CPM, but the advertiser feels better about continuing to spend if they get a lot of click-throughs. So generally speaking, clicking on ads, especially the targeted campaigns, helps retain high CPM's.

There you have it.

Can we click on an ad, go back, click, go back, etc.? If so, I for one will volunteer to help you pay the bill. ;) *** This post was edited by Lothar on 3/30/2001. ***

Repeated clicks are not counted.

I think that would be a neat idea. You don't necessarily have to show how many posts the member has, or even how many posts it takes to obtain such a status. Junior Coaster = new guy. Hyper Coaster = member. Giga Coaster = life-less poster;).

You read my mind! I've been meaning to suggest this and perhaps to remove # of posts altogether as crazy people like me are secretly competing with others to get the highest #! ;););)

Could replace it with date joined.

Am I right that News & Rumors posts are not included in the count?

BTW, this is my 400th post. Jeff, you're a legend & keep up the excellent work mate.
