Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway posed design challenges as first Mickey ride ever

Why has there never been a Mickey Mouse ride before at any of Disney’s theme parks? After more than 60 years of waiting, Mickey and Minnie are about to get their own ride. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway trackless dark ride debuts March 4 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland in 2022. The lack of backstory for the main characters made it challenging to design the attraction.

It's funny to hear someone whose job it is to "imagine" say it was a challenge to come up with a story. I'm bummed to have missed this by a few weeks because as much as I loved Galaxy's Edge and Rise of the Resistance, I have very little interest is going back to Hollywood Studios any time soon.
There's always Disneyland.

The Mickey Mouse animated shorts that this ride is based on are amazing! They have the silliness of Spongebob with the outrageous-ness of the old Loony Tunes cartoons.

They're edgy in a way I wouldn't expect. First saw them on one of the cruise ships some years ago. I've seen all of them now via Disney+.

So I was able to ride today and I gotta say it was a lot of fun! I was a fan of 'The Great Movie Ride' and was a bit bummed it closed but this is a great replacement. Some cool new technology combined with old school effects done in the best way I have ever seen them used. Could have been a bit longer but overall a very great ride. I am not going to spoil anything here but its definitely worth a couple of rides if you are planning on going to Studios.

We are looking forward to riding in a few weeks. We were lucky to be able to get a fastpass for it early in our vacation, so that way we'll know if we want to wait in line to ride again.

My daughter and I decided to wait it out last night--we are near the end of our trip and had done pretty much everything else on our agenda. It was a worthy addition to Studios, and we enjoyed it very much. Fair warning: the song is a major earworm. We've been singing the refrain since last night. We are thinking about going back tonight after our mid-day break to see if we are up for it again. Based on what she is saying, I think we probably will...

We did end up going back. Wait was posted at 95, but we waited just over 40 minutes to board the train, a few minutes less to get to the pre-show. We are now sitting in the Delta lounge, getting ready to re-enter the real world. Sigh.
