How much does it cost?
The annual cost is $25. You can pay by credit card or check.
What do I get for $25?
Your annual membership fee will get you these perks:
- Access to the premium functions of CoasterBuzz. As a club member, you'll enjoy absolutely zero advertisements (aside from promotional and public service announcements on the home page). No pop-ups, no banners, just all the content you can stand. It also includes the track record function, which lets you keep track of your coasters online. Your membership helps keep the site alive and kicking, and removes its dependence on advertising.
- A CoasterBuzz Club membership card, mailed to you.
- Admission to park events held for general enthusiast clubs (see list at right).
- Park discounts, where offered to enthusiast clubs or CoasterBuzz Club members.
- Club-sponsored events.
- A private, member-only forum.
- You'll support the CoasterBuzz Podcast, our frequent audio news program.
When will I get my membership card?
Cards are typically mailed out once a week during the busy spring and summer event seasons, and every two to three weeks during the off season. You can view your account history and print dates in the "my account" area under "club membership."
Are there family memberships?
Yes, but you must join by mail. Download the form from the join page. Up to three additional members may join for $5 each and must be a member of the same household. The fourth additional member must pay the full $25 membership. Important: Each member must have an account set up here on CoasterBuzz before mailing in the form, since this is an Internet-based club. To create accounts, logout, then click the "register" link at the top of the page.
Do I get any magazines or newsletters?
No. After looking carefully at that option, we decided that print magazines and newsletters create the majority of overhead in running a club. To keep the annual membership fee reasonable, we will not likely produce any print publications. Generally speaking, the information that appears on CoasterBuzz is more immediate and current, and not limited to what the staff can produce.
What events are planned?
CoasterBuzz Club has been having events around the country since 2002. A current list of events can be found on this page.
What perks can I expect?
These will vary by park, and will likely grow in number as the club ages. We hope to foster a club culture that isn't one of expectations (I'm in the club and deserve...), but one that graciously accepts the offerings from the parks and people that fuel our obsession. The club was originally created to help keep CoasterBuzz.com in the black, so that it could foster community for years to come.
What else do I need to know?
CoasterBuzz Club has a strict code of conduct for its members and attendees of its events. If a park takes any action against you for any kind of safety issue, you will be removed from the club without refund and banned from all future CoasterBuzz Club events. This is a zero-tolerance policy and there are no second chances. CoasterBuzz reserves the right to add or remove site features at any time.
Where does the $25 go?
Most goes to support the CoasterBuzz site. As advertising for a mid-sized site like this one fluctuates greatly, this offers members an opportunity to help out. It's almost an "honor system" of helping defray the cost of the site. The rest goes to getting your membership card printed, mailing it and dealing with the administrative costs of setting up events.
Who runs the club?
The club is operated by POP World Media, LLC, the company that produces CoasterBuzz.
Are there club officers? How can I get more involved?
The club does not have elected officials, but we will accept help in various regions. If you have a good relationship with a particular park, we appreciate your volunteer work in organizing an event for the club.
How much will it cost to renew my membership?
Cost seems to be one of the biggest barriers in getting people to join a club. We don't want that! You can renew any time to have another year added to your membership and a new membership card issued. They're the same as those for first-time members.
