Conneaut may be denied loan, miss opening day

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Amid opposition from residents, a financially troubled amusement park that is home to the country's sixth-oldest wooden roller coaster has scuttled plans for a county-backed loan that would allow it to open on time. Officials with Conneaut Lake Park on Monday learned that Crawford County officials likely would not approve a $150,000 loan that would allow the 110-year-old park to open in time.

Maybe Crawford County doesn't want my tax dollars for eating, Park addmissions, Camping?

Chuck, who thinks $150,000 loan is a no brainer verses revenue generated.

But is it a no-brainer? I thought the park was a non-profit trust, and as such wouldn't pay any taxes.

I guess my uncle was right, even though I told him it was going to open he did say the most likley won't. Hopefully it turns around, cause I need money ;) But who knows, they want to buy the park. The park asked my uncle to pay 150,000 to open it (loan or something) and whatnot, but he refused. So hopefully they will open one way or another.

Chuck is right. While they, you not only visit the park, but you feed your family, fill up the tank, maybe stay a night or two, visit other attractions. All of this brings money to local businesses, and in doing so, generates revenue for the locality.

I plan to email the county and explain that I hope taht they would reconsider and allow the park to get the funds needed to open, because I and a friend plan to go there in late June. We plan to stay the night there as well, so that would be two days that we would be spending money in their county.

Conneaut Lake Park Is the Anchor to the Sucess of Conneaut lake PA. The Local economy get's the Majority of it's Money thru it's 4 month Vacation Season. The Area will not survive with out the Park Being opened. Sure they have a great Natural lake with alot of Cottages but the Draw to the Vacation Rentals is the Park. If the park lost money due to repairs then those same repairs won't need done this year. The park is a small jem for North Western Pennslyvania and should be opened.
