Cedar Point announces partnership with Lebron James Family Foundation

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

From the press release:

Today, Cedar Point announces a joint decision with the LeBron James Family Foundation on a multi-year partnership which includes benefits that go far beyond renaming a coaster.

The highlight of this new partnership will take place next summer when Cedar Point hosts all of the kids who are actively involved in the foundation’s “Wheels for Education” program and Akron I PROMISE Network for a day of fun with their families in the program's annual "I PROMISE Family Reunion" event. Additionally, next spring, Cedar Point will hold a first ride auction with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the LeBron James Family Foundation.

This is better than renaming a ride. But I don't like the way the teased the announcement. But in the end, this looks better for CP's PR than renaming a ride.

So the park thinks this announcement will get people to shell out $190 for a 2015pass Lmfao ?

$190 for a CP Platinum Pass is an excellent value. It only take about 3 visits for it to pay for itself, not to mention all the perks and discounts that go with it.

This is all they've announced?

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

My question is this. Are they adding this as another charity, or is this going to be the charity? Meaning they still do things for give kids the world, or is this some exclusive thing that just Cedar Point is doing. I know Cedar Fair as a whole does coasting for kids across the chain, but does this change now that Cedar Point has entered into what seems a park exclusive charity?

Cedar point's mobile site is a big pile of crap, so I can't read this...did they rename a coaster or not?

Hi

From the latest tweet-

"This new partnership with the @LJFamFoundation means we will not rename a coaster. It's all about helping kids and families!"

Good.

I haven't found any information on the "new" ride at all in the press release. I admit, I am not surprised, as I thought I read that the actual ride announcement date was later than today. Am I wrong?

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.

To avoid CP's mobile site, just add ?mobile=0 to the end of the URL. This should work:

That's a totally user friendly feature.

I can't even read the comments from entitled douchebags on the PointBuzz Facebook page. "OMG HELPING UNDERPRIVILEGED KIDS BUT WHEREZ MY RIDE ANNOUNCEMENT?????!!!?!1"

Well, hey, Jeff, can you blame those entitled enthusiasts? I mean, what with all the hyping the park did by announcing that they would make an announcement regarding LJ.. Clearly anyone with a shred of intelligence could see that the park promised an announcement of a new ride!

Meh... Move along, nothing to see here. I'm glad they're working with his charity instead of a lame publicity stunt of renaming a ride. I will now patiently wait for any other announcements they make. My day does not depend on it, unlike some..

Cool. While I'm sure some people are pretty disappointed, I wasn't really all that excited about riding LeBron James.

^Do you mean that literally?

Kevin Love is excited about riding him to a championship.

There is a Delonte West joke there but probably best to let it pass.

People find disappointment when expectations are not met. I understand why people would be disappointed because of the hype. People thought that this was "the" announcement for what is happening next year. Instead they got an announcement that really doesn't affect them.

Plus, Cedar Point is not renaming a coaster like they said they would. Helping poor little children is all well and good, but they kind of blundered in what was expected of them. It could be seen as backpedaling.

If they would have stated that if the famous sports game player moved back to Ohio or whatever it was, that they would help poor little children, and not name a coaster after him, expectations would have been parallel to what they offered, and less people would whine and complain.

That being said, helping poor little children is a good thing. It's just hard for people to realize that because they expected news that was different than this.

I can't see this affecting an established relationship like the one CF has with GKTW in general and CFK in particular.

The amusement park rises bold and stark..kids are huddled on the beach in a mist

Or people could stop being idiots and find more important things to get worked up about.
