Turbo ride question.

There was a ride around in the late 70's-early 80's called "turbo".

The ride looked like a blast. Are there any of these operating these days? I would love to get on one.

There is video(near the end of the clip) of a operating turbo ride at edgewater park detroit. I believe it's from the late 70's.

I don't believe there are any on the fair circuit in the USA. If I recall correctly Conneaut Lake had one operating until the late 90s/early 2000s and still has it in storage.

It's a shame the ride isn't still around...if maked the Zipper look tame! It was an experience I'll never forget.

It 's a shame that they aren't around, but they were among many rides that fell victum to POP . They have a miserable rph figure. Plus, like a lot of early Chance portables, they were very heavy, Most jumps in rural areas required getting special permits to travel as they had a tendency to bust up the pavement. I remember Gooding Amusement had at least one, maybe two of them. The last one I saw was at Belmont Park in San Diego shortly before it closed down in 1976

It looked like an intense ride.

Hopefully conneaut will dust it off soon. I plan on checking that park out next year for the first time.

Conneaut Lake Park purchased theirs from Old Indiana. However, the ride never operated. Its off the property now. Quite an experience I am told.

Rides like Zippers, Turbos, Skydivers, Rock-O-Planes and most Ferris Wheels were very time consuming to load which kept the hourly capacity down.

Another park that had a Turbo was Idora Park in the 1970s.

Probably the closest you can come to the ride experience provided by a Turbo now is on a Power Surge.

Rode one once at the Oregon State Fair back in the early 80s (Funtastic Shows, IIRC) and it scared the crap out of me. It did not look safe from a spectator vantage point, and felt even less so once we were inside one of the pods.

I'd say the Power Surge comparison is pretty close as a ride experience.
