Re: Would love to see Greezed Lightnin'/Tidal Wave at Holiday World!
^Who cares if it's a 5th hand ride. As it runs at SFKK, it has parts of another ride (the 'other' Tidal Wave/GL), and many new parts as well. Heck it doesn't even make the same sounds as it originally did.
I just think about the newer steel coasters, the impulses, etc. and although very spectacular to look at, they just don't provide the same quality of ride. Year after year, after decade, the Anton/Intamin loopers (Mind Bender, the shuttle loops) are just more fun and comfortable. Of course, this is just personal opinion. I would guess that to be split pretty much down the middle.
The 'classic' loopers also have a classic quality to them. I'm a coaster geek who tends to equate classic with quality for the most part.
The trains look dated, but are light years more comfortable than the new 'open-air' vehicles with lap bars that have caused at least one moderate injury to myself (thanks to an overzealous employee at SFNew England a few years ago; the whole ordeal was complete with a visit to PR, then first aid to get an 'exam', what a pain in the *%$@!).
The sound, feel, look of the older loopers just feel 'right' to me. The newer stuff doesn't really feel like a 'roller coaster' to me. Too smooth, yet weirdly rough on the head (and other parts); too quiet, too cramped, nice for a 'flying ride' but not a roller coaster.
An "uplift force" is NOT AIRTIME
