A few years ago on a visit to Six Flags Over Texas I encountered a "host" whose name tag said "Steve". I inquired if he was Steve Calloway and he said yes. I asked him a few questions about Six Flags. He was very cordial. As we parted I observed him walk over and pick up some trash. Steve impressed me as one who did not let his position go to his head. Although he was the "boss" he was in a park uniform out among the guests. I'm glad I had the pleasure of meeting him. I'm sorry to hear of his death.

Isn't it strange that people like this apparently didn't have a bigger voice in the pre-Red Zone days? I wonder if the company would look different today if he were more than just a GM back in the Burke era.

Very sad to hear of his passing. I worked there when Calloway was GM and he was a good man. Regularly walked the park, would go out of his way to say hello to all team members, and lead by example.

^My understanding is that unless someone had a great idea about how to reduce staffing or overhead, there wasn't a lot of room for input during the Burke era.

Very sad news indeed. This quote in particular stuck out when I read the article.

In an interview about the park’s 40th anniversary in 2001, Mr. Calloway said: "My job is really to be the steward of the park and not to worry so much about making my mark on it. This is just a wonderful park with a wonderful tradition."
